Introduction
God Keeps on Speaking; “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,” Hebrews 1:1
From the creation of mankind to the time that Christ came, God used many segments of history and many events that stand out to mankind as important times of the past.
Using many different or various ways he spoke to the fathers of many generations, by the use of prophets.
From the sin of Adam, to Christ, God has been speaking to mankind.
Bit by bit piece-by-piece God revealed his plan.
The promise to mankind, that there would be one that could deliver us from the curse of sin.
In past times, God used prophets to speak to us, but this was not his final plan.
If you would please stand, honor the Word of God, and follow along with me as I read from Hebrews 1:1-3.
Scripture
1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Prayer
1. A Mystery Hidden
“10 of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.”
“ Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;” Hebrews 1:2
Hidden from the prophets was this plan of grace. How could sin be forgiven without the shedding of the blood of sheep and goats?
What would be the perfect sacrifice? That perfect sacrifice would be the shedding of the blood of the Son of God. The cross would bridge the gap and the blood would cleanse our souls.
The mystery that was hidden from the prophets is the sealing of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Christ in you the hope of glory.
2. God’s Word is Inspired
“16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
God’s word is perfect; it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction, and righteousness.
Our perfection comes from being grounded in the Word of God that fully equips us to do every good work.
“For now we live under grace and the time of Christ. God speaks to us through his son Jesus Christ, who is the owner of all things.
Having received the right because of who He is.
Not like us that have no right to anything, because of our sins. Which has separated us from God!
Jesus speaks to us today through the Holy Spirit, who dwells in the hearts of all believers and through the Holy Scriptures, which is the Word of God.”
3. A Name Above All Names
All things are in existence because of His name. He has completed the grace of salvation.
This completion has taken the sting our of death, by the purging of our sins.
We are righteous in the eyes of God, because of the Son.
He as completed the task and has taken his place on the throne.
He sets on the right hand of God, our ambassador, our redeemer, and delivers.
“Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,” Hebrews 1:3
Being the image of God, Jesus Christ exhibits five characteristics that set him high above all others.
These characteristics prove he is how he says he is.
1. He has divine support.
2. He has all power.
3. He can cleanse all sins.
4. He is exalted on high.
