Summary: This is a children's sermon I preached on trusting God while at a children's orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The Bird’s Eye View

Isaiah 40:28-31

Object lesson: flying discs

28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Do you ever get tired? Do you ever get so tired that you just want to lay down right where you are and sleep? I do. The other day I was cutting some tress down and I got soooo tired I just laid down on the ground for a little while -- right out there in the forest.

Do you ever get tired of doing the right thing? Does it ever seem like you keep doing the right thing but nothing ever changes? It does to me. And that is when God speaks to me in Bible passages like this one. He tells me:

1. It is never wrong to do right and that He takes notice of our faithful obedience

2. Just as God is strong enough to do the right things even when no one else does; he will help us do the right things even when no one else does.

3. God tells me that He looks at things different than I do – He can see the conclusion of the matter and that he will help me see with His eyes.

Today I have a Frisbee. I am going to give all of you one in a little while. If we could put a camera on this Frisbee and throw it in the air so it could fly over where we are meeting, we would see the place differently that we do from where we are setting at right now. You would see the tops of people’s heads (and my bald spot) and other things like that because we would view it all from a different vantage point.

Everything would actually look different even though it is the same place.

That is what God can do – He can see more and he can see things differently. God can help us have that look too – it’s called a “bird’s eye view.”

When we do we will see things going on in our lives from His perspective not our own.

You see, we see our troubles and a lot of other bad stuff but God sees more. God sees what and how He is protecting us and providing for us and what he is going to do with us as we mature.

I want you to see things from a bird’s eye view. I want you to see things from God’s perspective. When you do you will have the ability to keep doing what is right even though its hard and easier not to.

You will also be able to trust God more.

That’s my prayer for you!
