Summary: This is a message about our plea for mercy to God for the sins we have commited. Based upon David’s same cry in Psalm 51
A Cry For Mercy
Psalm 51 Verse 1-2. A Cry for Mercy.
Have mercy on me, O God
You see David doesn’t try to plead his innocence nor shifts the blame to someone else. He knows that he does not deserve forgiveness, he pleads first for mercy, based on God’s loving-kindness. In line with this mercy, he asks that his transgressions or rebellion and sin be wiped away and his iniquity or washed away.
Vs 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
This is a Confession of Sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions. Here the David emphasizes the fact that he knows and is constantly aware of his sin, and acknowledges that his sin is more than sin against man that it is sin against God. The depth of his confession is apparent in his desire to open up the inward and hidden parts of his being.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
A Plea for Cleansing. Purge me ... wash me. David is asking for external cleansing. Purging with hyssop and washing are related to ritual acts of cleansing.
When David pleas for a newly created heart and a renewed steadfast spirit, his is asking or an internal and inward cleansing.
David continues with his pleas to God

You see the David no longer wants to be void of the spirit of God he longs to have the emptiness removed he knows that the joy of the Lord is his strength and he is crying out to God to get that joy back.
Vs 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
This Vow to teach others the same forgiveness we have found. Should be our testimony. For the bible teaches us that we are all sinners. You see David knew that his sin required more than burnt offerings and sacrifice he knew that the Lord desired a broken spirit and contrite heart true and sincere repentance.
You see I believe that we can learn something from David here. We all are sinners we all fail from time to time there are things we have done, attitudes we are trying to overcome, sins we have committed all these things drive the joy of the Lord form us, they put a wedge in-between the Lord and ourselves but just as David Did we to must cry out to God for mercy we to must Look toward our savior and repent for our sins with a broken spirit and a contrite heart.
