FATHERS’ DAY MESSAGE

FROM EPH. THREE & PS. 103

Introduction: Dads come in various sizes, shapes, and colors.

Dads speak the different languages of the world;

however, almost all speak the universal language

of love.

The time and culture in which a dad lives influences

his attitudes, actions, reactions, and philosophy of

life.

Theme: Dads everywhere should demonstrate Godly love

and concern for their children.

I. Biblical Dads

A. Abraham assured his son Isaac that God would

provide a sacrifice.

B. Eli tolerated his sons’ sins; causing them to lose

out.

C. Joseph taught his step-son Jesus carpentry.

D. Jacob showed favortism among his children by

preparing a coat of many colors for Joseph.

II. Some of Today’s Dads are

A. Intolerent

1. stern disciplinarians

2. narrow-minded

3. closed-minded

4. abusive

5. incapable of effectively coping with life

B. Benevolent

1. refuse to discipline

2. substitute money and things in place of

genuine love

3. do not productively become involved in

their children’s lives

C. Well-Balanced

1. know when to discipline and when to reward

2. give quality time

a. instructing

b. listening

c. counseling

d. consoling

D. Dad’s presence is needed much more than his

presents are needed.

III. Earthly Dads/Heavenly Father

A. (Psalms 103:13 DBY) As a father pitieth [his] children,

so Jehovah pitieth them that fear him.

b. to love, love deeply, have mercy, be compassionate,

have tender affection, have compassion

B. Good dads are somewhat a type of the Heavenly Father.

1. clothe

2. protect

3. provide (now and for the future)

4. set examples

5. instruct (see Psalm 32:8)

Conclusion: "An earthly father, although the best of men, is only a

man at the best. He can never be perfect. Not so God,

who has all perfectiions and excellencies of the divine

being. He always presents His children with the pattern

of perfect holiness."
