A Holy Family

Mary

Luke 2:15-19

A holy family

Last week we talked about Joseph.

Today we will take a look at Mary.

The Bible says that after everything had calmed down, after the shepherds had gone away telling about all they had seen, that “Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.”

Have you ever wanted to keep a moment in time?

She wanted to keep these things in her heart.

It was as though she wrapped them up and tucked them away for safe keeping.

There was a lot that Mary had to think about.

We can only speculate as to the things she wanted to keep in her heart.

The announcement of the angel Luke 1:26-33

Her conversations with Joseph

Her visit to cousin Elizabeth

Her trip from Nazareth to Bethlehem

Their refusal of a room at the Inn

The actual birth

The visit by the shepherds

There were things she wanted to keep, and there were things she pondered.

Pondered – to bring together.

We do not know exactly what was in her heart but we can speculate.

I. Why me…(Luke 1:28)

A. Do you suppose she wondered why God had chosen her?

1.He told her, “Thou are highly favored”

2. What had she done to be highly favored?

3.Why not someone else?

a. The angel told her...

-“The Lord is with thee”

-“blessed art thou among women”

4. Why Mary?

a. She was not rich

b. She was not royalty

c. She was not regarded as renown

d. She was just Mary.

1 Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things

of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

-It was because it was God’s will to use her….

II. Why here…?

A. Why in Bethlehem?

1. Couldn’t they have stayed in Nazareth?

2. Couldn’t they have stayed home?

B. Because of the prophecy.

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

C. Why in a stable?

III. Why now…?

A. The time was right

Politically

Spiritually

Geographically

B. It was all within God’s timing

IV. Why….just why?

A. Why had all this happened?

B.Why would God want to send His son to the earth?

C. Why would God want to become man – Immanuel.

D. Why would God come to save the world?

Conclusion

There is only one answerto "why"

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosover believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

He came to die so that you could live….

Mary had a lot to think about….

So do we…
