A Living Hope

January 9, 2022 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: Jesus is our only hope for salvation.

Focus Passage: 1 Peter 1:3-5

Supplemental Passage: For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. (Romans 8:24-25 NASB)

Introduction: A man approached a little league baseball game one afternoon. He asked a boy in the dugout what the score was. The boy responded, "Eighteen to nothing--we're behind." "Boy," said the spectator, "I'll bet you're discouraged." "Why should I be discouraged?" replied the little boy. "We haven't even gotten up to bat yet!" Source Unknown.

I. Living Hope (vs 3)

a. In what sort of things does the world place its hope? In wealth? Religion? Status? Dead people?

b. Our hope is in Jesus

c. Our hope is alive

II. Reserved Inheritance (vs 4)

a. “imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away” -

b. "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:1-3 NASB)

III. Protected Salvation (vs 5)

a. 'He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. (Revelation 3:5 NASB)

b. and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. (John 10:28-29 NASB)

Application/Call to Obedience: Where is your hope? If it is not in Jesus, you are, indeed, without hope. The Bible says, If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from death, you will be saved. For it is by our faith that we are put right with God; it is by our confession that we are saved. (Romans 10:9-10 GNB)
