A Marriage for His Son!

Matt. 22:1-14
Matt. 22:1-14 The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,
There are many characters in the parable of the wedding feast.
1. Kingdom no doubt is the church.
2. The King is the God the Father.
3. The Son is none other than Jesus Christ.
4. The marriage is the uniting of Jesus and His church.
5. The servants are the saints of OT times as well as NT times.
6. Those invited are the Jews at first and then everybody.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,
3 “and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.
4 “Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” ’
From the beginning of time God has always intended man to be associated with God. Down through the ages God has always shown His mercy and love for man. From righteous Able to Noah, from Abraham and Isaac and Jacob to Moses, from David and Solomon even unto this present time, God has planned and is planning a relationship with mankind. That relationship is the marriage of the saved the church and Jesus Christ the anointed. The parable in Matt. 22 begins with God the Father arranging a marriage for His Son Jesus. The first recipients are the Jews, the children of Israel. They are offered the relationship of being united with God through Jesus but because of the love for themselves they are unwilling to come. Countless times they have been offered reconciliation by the saints and prophets of old. Countless times they have rejected the love of God. Finally Jesus was sent and they killed Him.
5 “But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.
The Jews certainly made light of God’s will for them and the made light of Jesus. The words ‘made light of’ is translated ‘paid no attention to’ in the NASV Bible. The Jews paid no attention to God’s instructions. They treated the will of God lightly. They heard, they saw but they paid no attention. We often do the same thing. We hear, we see, we read and we paid no attention. We treat God and His word lightly. We forget the realness of God and power He has. (one to his own farm, another to his business) God is not to be taken lightly. He is more important than our farms and our jobs.
II Corin. 5:20-21 ….. not to receive the grace of God in vain.
6 “And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.
Here Jesus refers to those martyred saints of old. I believe He also predicts His own death. Jesus is a servant of God the Father also. Many times He made the statement “I have come to serve, not to be served.”
7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear,8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
7 “But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
In Matt. 22:7 Jesus prophesies the destruction of Jerusalem. In 70 AD the Romans completely destroyed the city of Jerusalem and burned it.
8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.9 ‘Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’
10 “So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
Now we see for the first time the saints of the NT time working and soul winning, searching the highways and byways to fill the wedding feast of Jesus. Notice the words of Jesus, “as many as you find”. It is our duty to search and find as many as we can. Notice the bad and good? The lowest sinner you can find on the highways can be as white as snow by the blood of Jesus.
