A Strong Reminder
Today, our nation sits in shock over the events that transpired on Tuesday. What looked like a scene from a movie, was in fact reality. Our lifestyles as Americans were threatened as we came to the realization that terrorism is a frightening possibility, even here, in the land of the free. As we watched those two planes slam into the twin towers of the World Trade center and another in the Pentagon, we were told that the casualties would reach into the thousands. For those, there was no warning. In the blink of an eye, there lives were snuffed out.
Through all of this, we are reminded of how brief life really is. We read in James 4:14:
“For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
None of us know when our life will be required of us. I am sure that none of the victims of this tragedy thought that Tuesday would be the last day of their lives. When we think about this, let us hear again the words of John the Baptist as he cried out in the Judean wilderness:
“Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
As we think about the events over this last week, let us be reminded, not only of the brevity of life, but also the urgency of the hour. We are living in the midnight hour. This tragedy is only a picture of the Tribulation this world will face. Jesus will soon come to claim His bride, and we must ask ourselves, “am I ready?”
Today is a day for us to get our houses in order, bring our sins to God, leave them there, and walk in the way of Holiness. Let us heed this strong reminder.
