Summary: Towers are fortifications built to defend cities in days of old. Today, people build towers of money, power and fame to protect themselves. Can these modern towers actually protect from evil?

TEXT: Proverbs 18:10

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe."

MAN MADE TOWERS

Towers are high rise, physical structures built to fortify cities. Jericho was fortified with walls and towers which made it impregnable. King Uzziah was noted for building strong towers around Jerusalem and Israel. These served as formidable fortification for the city (2 Chron 26:9,10,15). Physical towers are strong but are not insurmountable. The wall of Jericho was destroyed by a superior power. Which tower are you depending on?

MODERN TOWERS

Today, people build towers of money, fame, power and charms as protection from challenges of life. True, the Bible says, money answereth all things (Eccl 10:19) and money is a defence (Eccl 7:12), but money can only answer to physical things; not spiritual matters. Money is physical and only provide solution to physical problems. When you spend money for that which is not bread, it is futile (Isa 55:2).

"The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD" (Prov 21:31). You cannot obtain spiritual things with physical money (Acts 8:20). The Lord will be your tower of safety in Jesus name.

THE STRONG TOWER

Ultimate protection is from God. Psalms 61:3 says: "For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy." The Lord is the highest and strongest tower that protects from all adversities: spiritual and physical. "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower" (Ps 18:2). The Lord is a tower can never be breached, a sure hedge that protects from the strongest enemy. The Lord was Job's strong tower that Satan could not breach. The Bible ssys in Proverbs 18:10: "The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." God's hedge of fire round about you and your family will never be breached in Jesus name.

GOD'S NAME - A TOWER OF SAFETY

Why is the name of the LORD a strong tower? The name of the LORD is above all other name. Every problem or challenge has a name and are therefore subject to the name of Jesus.

"Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Phil 2:9-11). Every problem bows before the name of Jesus. As you call upon the name of Jesus, every mountain will level before you this year in Jesus name.

There is a name of God for every challenge you are passing through and when you run into that name in prayer, the Lord will deliver and save you. His name is:

NAMES OF GOD

Jehovah El-Shaddai - The Almighty God. All things are possible with Him.

Jehovah Rapha - The Lord our healer.

Jehovah Jireh - The Lord our provider.

Jehovah Nissi - The Lord our banner, the sure protector.

Jehovah Tshikednu - The Lord our righteousness.

Jehovah Shalom - The Lord our peace.

Jehovah Elohim - The creator of all things.

There are many other names of the Lord that you can use to counter the darts of the enemy. All his names are in his word, the Bible. Seek diligently for them and use them in your prayers. The Lord will answer you when you call upon his name in Jesus name.

Psalms 50:15 says: "... Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me." But if you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, he will not answer you when you call on his name. Why not receive him today.

PRAYER:

Father, please have mercy on me. Answer me speedily whenever I call on your name this year in Jesus name.

CONFESSION:

The name of the LORD is my strong tower and refuge.

God bless you. Shalom.
