Summary: What BBQ Chicken and Christian’s have in common.

What do you need to cook that special BBQ Chicken?

Wood – Good mesquite wood to add that special something.

Fire – Hot enough to cook safely but not to hot. You want to allow the chicken to be smoked while it’s cooking. The slow smoking it a critical part of the process and can not be rushed.

Seasonings – a special unique blend you can get no where else.

Cooking Time – you have to know just when to take the chicken off the grill.

To soon and the chicken is raw and it can make you sick. Why? Under cooked and you can get food poisoning.

To long and the chicken is dry and tough. It looses its flavor and it can burn.

Smell – When I BBQ chicken our house smells like BBQ smoke for a week. Why? The smoke permeates into the meat so deeply that when we bring it in that deep, rich smell fills the house and lingers. The smell should reach out as a warm and inviting comfort smell. It should start the mouth to watering and the stomach to rumble in anticipating the coming meal.

Look – as the chicken cooks, it takes on a deep beautiful smoky color. When you look at the chicken should make your mouth water. When you look at it you should look tempting and delicious. It should invite you to take a bite.

Taste – the taste should not be overpowering. It should be a perfect blend of the seasonings, the mesquite smoke and the chicken blended together. Each of these should compliment and enhance the other. None of these flavors should detract from the others. They also should not overpower the other flavors.

Reaction – Trey running and giving me a hug.

Kenneth almost running over people to make sure he got some.

Welcome to the BBQ..

How do you Smell? a sweetsmelling savor or do you stinketh?

Smell – Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savor

Philippians 4:18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

What do you look like?

Look – Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

What are you seasoned with? (tasteful or tasteless)

Seasoning – Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

1 Corinthians 13:13 But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law”.

Do you look at life from the view point of the chicken or the cook?

God has you on the fire for a specific reason. He will leave you on the grill just long enough to bring you to perfection. He will not leave you on to long or to paraphrase he won’t let you go through more than you can bear. He also won’t take you off the grill to soon. Why?

On the grill – (perfecting your faith) 1 Peter 1:7 “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ”.

(revealing your works) 1 Corinthians 3:13 “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is”

What type of reaction do you bring into the world? God wants you to be like that BBQ chicken, where people want to be around you. They look forward to the light and joy you bring with you. They enjoy the fragrance that you bring the love, joy and peace of God. Just like the BBQ chicken fills our house with it’s fragrance.
