Summary: This is a short devotional "During the month of February when everyone is thinking about love wouldn't it be a good time to ask God to help us Love like He loves."
February 1, 2013
February 1st, I love the first, the first day of the week, the first day of the month, the first day of the year; the first always gives me the sense that I have the opportunity to get right what I didn’t get right the last time. The realization of the first always seems to give me the feeling of a fresh start and who are there among us that doesn’t need fresh starts?
Phil 2:3-8 (NKJV)
3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Verse 5 is my focus today, the Amplified Bible translates this verse, “Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: Let Him be your example in humility”
What a life we would live and what an influence we would have if we would learn to live this kind of life, letting the attitude be in us which was in Christ.
• Letting our feet be His transportation
• Letting our hands be His tools
• Letting our eyes see the world as HE sees it
• Letting our heart feel the compassion that He feels
• Letting our mouth speak the words that He would speak
• Letting our ears listen as He would listen
• Letting our mind think the things and invent the ideas that He would dwell on (Philippians 4:8)
• Letting ourselves love as He would love
During the month of February when the world’s attention is on love, it would be a good time to ask God to help us to start loving like He would love.
Pray Together with Us “Lord, I am yours; I do yield myself up entirely to you, and I believe that you accept me. I leave myself with you. Work in me all the good pleasure of your will, and I will only lie still in your hands and trust you.” Hannah Whitall Smith
