Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. - Colossians 3:13

I remember in one church conference I was visiting, there was a person who I felt uncomfortable to be around so I choose to avoid him. After a sermon was preached, I was at the front of the meeting and guess who was the first person to come up to me, that same person. As he was talking and sharing, the Lord softened my heart to showed me he was just needing love and acceptance. It is amazing how many times we can avoid situations, people that will hurt us or make us uncomfortable. It is sometimes the most uncomfortable situations where the Lord will do the greatest work and allow us to be fruitful and learn. You cannot bear and forgive each other if you are do not open yourself up to Christian community. True Christian love can only be shared in circumstances that demand sacrifice and challenge.

St. Augustine said, “What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like." It is not that we have to bear with each other just so we do not treat someone bad. It is we need to bear long and suffer-long in a relationship where someone is struggling in an area or causing hurt to you not knowing fully what they are doing. Our Lord on the cross even said this that those who were killing him and mocking them really did not know the full extent of their sin. Therefore he said "forgive them" and we also can forgive others and extend the same prayer as our Lord did. To truly long-suffer is to bear with another in the body of Christ when it causes us a measure of pain and unhappiness. While we are long-suffering we must not raise complaints and words to speak against the individual. Make the choice today to bear long with that brother or sister you will sense the help of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in your words, thoughts and love towards that individual.
