Summary: In the midst of the darkness of our society, Christians must be lighthouses to guide folks to safety.

Intro: I heard a supply plane pilot flying into New

Orleans just after Katrina one night say "I’ve never

seen this place so dark." I was also viewing a friend’s homemade video of Biloxi/Gulfport MS area,

and amidst all the rubble, there stood the Old Biloxi

Lighthouse! The contrasts were clear...our world is

in darkness (spiritually),and those who know Jesus

should be lighthouses. Two considerations:

I.WE’VE NEVER SEEN IT SO DARK

*Like the pilot describing New Orleans without power,

we Christians can look at our society and make the

same statement.

*Our society is tossed about by every whim and wind

of doctrine, we are shaking our fist in God’s face

and attempting to remove Him from every facet of

society.

*People are "wandering in darkness" no anchor, no

guidance, no absolutes, and are all "doing what

seems right in their own eyes."

*Many evidences of this darkness are around us...

just pick up the newspaper and you’ll see examples!

II.WE ARE TO BE THE LIGHTHOUSE IN THIS DARKNESS

*We are to RECEIVE Jesus’ Light

*Then we are to REFLECT Jesus’Light

People are being tossed about across America

and we can be GUIDING LIGHTS tangibly to the

many homeless evacuees of Katrina.

Spiritually, people are fumbling in the darkness

and we have opportunity to be GUIDING LIGHTS for

them.

Close with the old Gospel Song "The Lighthouse"

Summary: as reflected in Katrina reports

"I’ve never seen it so dark..." BUT, praise God

THERE STANDS THE LIGHTHOUSE amidst all the rubble.

Jesus said "YE are the light of the world...let

your light SO SHINE before men that they may see

your good work and Glorify God which is in Heaven."
