Beware Of The Enemy

Ephesians 6:11

Introduction: Satan is always moving. He is actively encountering the Christian and the church. Let’s take a look at this arch-enemy.

I. His Structure

See Mark 5:9; Eph. 6:11. His schemes refer to his methods.

A. He is Multiplied “Legion” is a key word. It means many. There are many demons in this world. One devil has many demon followers. They hate God, His church and His children.

B. He is Organized A Roman legion was a thoroughly organized group of several thousand men. They were organized and highly disciplined.

C. He is Unified “My” name is legion. While the church is divided, the demons are united. Like a horde of locusts they have one purpose – destroy!

D. He is Energized This is not a peace summit. This is real life warfare.

II. His Strategy

A. To Have See Luke 22:31. He wants to own and possess. His aim is to control. Look at I Peter 5:8. Mark 5:9 is a picture of today and lostness. Here is one conquered by moral filth, living among the dead with no discipline, no restraint. He is demented, defeated and dead.

B. To Hide He hides his real identity. See 2 Cor. 11:14. He hides the truth – see 2 Cor. 4:4.

C. To Harass He will try to worry, accuse, tempt and derail God’s child. See Job 1:6-12; 2:1-7; 2 Cor. 12:7.

D. To Hinder See I Thess. 2:18. Tries to hinder our decisions, prayers, plans, work, unity, and service.

III. Our Solution

See Mark 5:8, 14-20. When Jesus comes into the region, the devil starts battles in human hearts. Look at Psalm 18:5. The “cords of hell” are ropes cast around him and being drawn tightly. What did David do? See v.6 – he prayed. See v.16-21.

A. His Condition (5)

B. His Prayer (6)

C. His Rescue (16-21)

Conclusion: Beware of the enemy!
