Summary: To Dance with the Father is to engage in an intimate relationship with the Creator. This series addresses how to relate with God by focusing on the Father instead of on the steps of the dance.

Boogie Woogie with the Word
Survey: Bible Pop Quiz
Intro: You might be wondering why I gave you a pop quiz this AM. B/c I wanted to make a point – Bible illiteracy in the church is at an all-time high.
Quote: Americans revere the Bible – but, by and large, they don’t read it. They have become a nation of illiterates. George Gallup
Stat: Were you aware that only 11% of all Americans read the Bible on a daily basis and that only 18% of professing Christians read the Bible daily. Even scarier, 24% on professing Christians confess that they never read the Bible.
Trans: No wonder we have a problem w/ truth and morality in our culture – we have chosen to neglect the standard of right and wrong and good and evil.
Insert: The question is whether you are part of the 18% that reads your Bible daily or apart of the 24% that never reads your Bible.
Note: Can I be frank. It is absolutely impossible to have a vibrant, effective, and intimate relationship w/ God w/out the Word of God – IMPOSSIBLE!
Trans: So why the Pop Quiz you ask – to challenge all of us to know the truth and content of the Bible. You can’t live the truth if you don’t know it. You can’t speak the truth if it is not hidden in your heart.
Verse: Faith comes by hearing and hearing comes by the word of God. Rm. 10:17
Note: That is, God’s truth is not going to be heard and experienced unless those who proclaim to know Christ live and share the truths of God’s Word. And we will not live or speak of anything that we have sincere doubts. After all, do we really believe that the Bible is God’s words to us?
Story: This past week while in Louisville w/ my family, we stayed in a Holiday Inn Express. As I was tooling around the room I opened the draw on the nightstand to find a Book of Mormon lying beside the Gideon Bible. I wonder how many patrons have bypassed the truth of the Bible for the heresy of Mormonism. And to think that many people consider that the BM of equal to the Bible in authority – talk about scary!
Trans: The problem is we live in an age when the average believer knows nothing regarding the precepts of God. And if the professing Christian is ignorant of truth – then there is little hope for the lost and unchurched.
Insert: Did you know that over 50% of Adults cannot name the four Gospels.
Over 60% of Americans cannot name five of the Ten Commandments.
Some 81% of professing Christians think God helps those who help…
Over 50% of high school seniors think Sodom and Gomorrah were married.
Trans: So what must we do to counter this ignorance? We must learn how to handle God’s Truth w/ accuracy.
Verse: Study to show your self approved of God as a workman who handles w/ accuracy the Word of Truth. 2 Tm. 2:15
Note: Likewise, we must recognize that the Bible is more than a book – it is God’s love letter to us. Thus, it must become the primary agent in determining what we value and how we think. The Bible must become the standard for which we filter every detail and decision of our lives.
Trans: We must realize that God’s intention for His Word is not to limit us, but rather to enlighten us. It’s not intended to hold us back, but to set us free.
I The IMPORTANCE of the Bible
Trans: Why do I need the Bible? Why is its important to my life? Quite simply, the Bible is special revelation from God to teach us about how we can know Him, serve Him, and share Him w/ others – it is our guidebook for living.
Note: I enjoy playing X-Box. Some of my favorite games are war games where you set out on a mission to conquer the enemy. To be honest, some of the games are so difficult you need to buy the guidebook to help you complete the game. In many ways, that is what the Bible is for us – it is a guidebook to get us through life so that we can win at life and find God in eternity.
Verse: All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. 2 Tm. 3:16-17
Note: Doctrine is truth you build your life upon as it shows you the correct path to walk on.
