Summary: ADVICE FOR MEN

There is much evidence that knowledge affects prayer. It seems the less someone knows the more time they will spend praying to God for impossibilities. In James 1:5 the Bible admonishes us to ask God for wisdom. And in the Old testament Apocrypha the book called the Wisdom of Solomon explains much about the nature and effects of wisdom. I say, what may generally be called the Battle Against Porn is really a battle against something deeper that existed long before porn existed. It is a war against the unwanted essences of the Adamic nature.

Technically porn is just images printed on paper (the mags) and displayed on screens (the videos). Human nature consists of certain factors which in response to outside things manifest themselves as desires. If everyone gives full reign to their desires the result is certain to be conflict with each other or God. Reasons for this are as follows. Certain things we desire are rare or limited in some way so there is not enough of those things to satisfy the desires of everyone. Conflict may still arise if more than one person desire the same thing at the same time or if people have desires that involve treating others in ways that are vicious or depraved. Our chief concern here is with sexual practices i.e. making sure we avoid those that displease God and practice those that are acceptable to Him. However, things written in Matthew 19:10-12 about marriage and celibacy, plus things mentioned at 1 Kings 11:3 about Solomon's love life may easily mislead rather than clarify our understanding of giving pragmatic advice about sexual conduct. Which of the following titles most accurately describes king Solomon ? Was he a Womanizer or a Conservative Prude ? Aristotle said : It is the mark of a trained mind never to expect more precision in the treatment of any subject than the nature of that subject permits.

Things written at Ezekiel 16:49 and 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 (KJV) imply that immoderate and inordinate sexual passions are a side effect of other sins. Do not keep anything in your home that you did not obtain honestly. The Holy Spirit does not sanctify it. Also keep possessions down to a safe limit so that you control them and they don't control you. If you are not a business merchant there is no need for you to have lots and lots of anything. Jesus said : A man's life consists not in the abundance of the things he possesses (Luke 12:15). Having too many possessions makes people insatiable because the more you have the more you want. Some relevant sayings from the Penguin Dictionary of Proverbs. Covetousness is the father of unsatisfied desires. Lechery and covetousness go together.

Aristotle said : In every sphere of conduct people develop qualities corresponding to the activities they pursue. So to be unaware that in every department of conduct moral states are the result of corresponding activities is the mark of a thoroughly unperceptive person.
