Breaking Loose From Family Idols

On this morning, we focused on the truth that the Roots of Idolatry are Deeply Implanted In Our Nature. We receive this tendency from Our Father’s Side of the Family, Adam, the Old Man with his deeds. So much so, that we discovered that Each Family Worships an Idol god. And then we looked at the Psychological Consequence of Idolatry: it has a Stronger Hold Over Us than We Realize, Sitting On Idols instead of Surrending our Idols.

On tonight, we shall look at Some Reasons for Breaking Loose From Family Superstitions.

I. What Good Have They Brought To Your Family? Verses 14-16

a) Did not Prevent the Loss of Your Inheritage - v 14

b) Did not prevent you from being treated as a Stranger

c) Did not prevent Laban from losing his wealth

II. Idols Will Cause Your Past To Catch Up With You - Verses 22-25

a) What you are trying to escape from: Slavery, Oppression, Bad Relationship,

b) Idolatry will track you down

c) It will Overtake You - Overpower, Overwhelm you with its power and numbers

d) When you think you are safe in the mountains, Idolatry will Catch Up With You!

III. Idolatry Will Expose You To Its Power - Verse 29

a) Deception

b) Demon-Possession

c) Hardened Heart - Pharaoh

d) Becoming Reprobate - Romans 1:23-32

IV. Idolatry Will Cause You To Lie - Verses 34-35.

a) God requires truth in the inner man; without truth, honesty, there is no possibility of cleansing and restoration.

b) the Penalty for Stealing was Death - Verse 32

The Only Reason Your Life has been spared from Death is because the Lord Has Intervened - verse 24

You should have been dead and buried in your grave, but the Lord Has Intervened.

God’s Justice and Holiness requires that your Soul be Cut Off, But His Grace and Mercy has stayed the sword of judgment!!!
