Summary: To become a temple of praise to give glory to our creator.

1 Chronicles 28:10

"Building A Habitation For God!"

1 Chronicles 28:10 "Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it." (NKJ)

Intro: Throughout the Bible there are few who were selected to build a house for God. Moses the great lawgiver and friend of God was the first who built the Tabernacle of Meeting. David, a man after God’s own heart desired to build a house for God, but was denied that privilege because he had been a man of war, so his desire was fulfilled in his son, Solomon. Zerubbabel headed up the rebuilding of Solomon’s temple, which amounted to a new building. And last a Temple was built by Herod who had been appointed king by the Roman empire after the capture of Jerusalem in 37 BC.

This is the Temple Jesus made reference to and went in to worship many times.

Our text declares, “the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary;" What a monumental task we have been selected for! God himself has chosen us to build a habitation for his Spirit.

I. God inhabits the praises of His people!

1 Pet 2:5-9 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious,

and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame."

7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,"

8 and "A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (NKJ)

There are three things we need to see in this passage of scripture today.

1. (vs. 9) “you are a chosen generation.” God

Himself has selected you for a purpose.

2. (vs. 5) “you are being built up a spiritual

house.” God desires to make you His temple and

dwell in you.

3. (vs. 9) God has set you apart “that you may

proclaim His praises.”

A. It’s not by chance that you’re here, it’s by

choice.

1. God chose you to dwell in.

2. You also must choose to invite him in.

3. You choose daily how much of your life God will

have.

B. Building spiritual walls.

1. How strongholds are built.

2. How strong holds are torn down.

3. How a spiritual habitation is built for God.

Ps 61:3-4 For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.

4 I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah (NKJ)

C. God doesn’t get glory for a temple that looks like

any other building.

1. Tract houses get little admiration.

2. Custom built homes are admired.

3. You are to be a temple that displays the glory of

God.

II. A beautifully built Temple gives glory to it’s builder!

1 Cor 3:12-17 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,

13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.

14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.

15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. (NKJ)

A. We would not build a temple out of wood, hay or

straw.

1. There would be no stability.

2. It would not display beauty.

3. It would not display the splendor of it’s creator.

B. You are precious to God.

1. Emeralds, rubies, diamonds, gold and silver.

2. God uses the most valuable items on earth to show

that you are of more value to Him than them all.

C. Praise is the walls that enclose what is most

precious to God. You!

1. When you praise God, you establish that He is in

control of your life.

2. When you praise God, you are raising up a temple

for Him to dwell in.

3. When you praise God you are not only building a

place for Him to dwell, but you are also closing

out the enemy.
