Introduction: Discuss the difference between cultural Easter with bunnies and eggs and biblical resurrection.

I. The Burial

a. Jesus really did die; He was stabbed in the heart by a guard

b. He was placed in a borrowed tomb

c. The women watched to see where He was buried because they wanted to prepare His body

d. The religious leaders were afraid that there would be a deception, so they put guards on the tomb and put a seal on it

II. The Resurrection

a. Just after sunrise, the women came to prepare His body

b. An angel was there to tell them that Jesus was no longer dead

c. Before they left, they saw Jesus and worshipped Him

d. The guards told the religious leaders what had happened and were paid “hush money” to lie about the event

III. The Significance

a. On the cross, Jesus paid the sacrifice for our sins

b. Rising from the dead, He conquered death, giving us the opportunity to have eternal life

c. All of Christianity depends on whether or not Jesus rose from the dead

d. If you do not believe that Jesus rose from the dead, you cannot have the forgiveness of sins or eternal life

Application/Invitation: The Bible is very clear about how to be saved. “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)

Do you believe that God raised Jesus from the dead? Your entire eternity hinges on that. When all is said and done, it is a matter of faith. You either believe it or you do not believe it. The Bible says that Jesus appears to hundreds of people after He rose from the dead. That cannot be proved. There are not photographs; only the accounts of those who where there. Won’t you, on this Resurrection Sunday, put all your faith, all your belief into trusting Jesus? It will literally change your eternity and give you a fresh start. Believe in Jesus. Repent of your sins. Be baptized. Live a life devoted to God.
