Summary: We will be looking at the ministry of Aaron and his sons to find the qualities of a great leader.

Called to the Ministry

Dr. Fernando Cabrera

Exodus 9:2-10:3

True leaders...

1. Answers their Assignment

“Take Aaron and his sons” (9:2)

“You also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (I Peter 2:5)

“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood…” (I Peter 2:9)

Chosen for an assignment to minister

2. Acquires an Anointing

“and the anointing oil” (8:2b)

“Take also for yourself the finest of spices: of flowing myrrh five hundred shekels, and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, two hundred and fifty, and of fragrant cane two hundred and fifty, and of cassia five hundred, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a hin. You shall make of these a holy anointing oil…” (Exodus 30:23-25a)

Recipe for releasing anointing (Exodus 30:23-29)

• Death (Myrth)

It was used in burials

There is no anointing without death (Ps. 51:16, 17)

• Sweetness (Sweet Cinnamon)

Used to counteract the stench of dead animals

• Character (Cane)

It grows in the miry clay

To get this plant to smell you had to beat it; the more you beat the better the smell

Character makes room for Charisma

• Prayer (Cassia)

o It only grows at elevation above 8,000 feet

o You got to go to the mountain top to get it

 The word means to split, to scrape and to purge

• It was from the bark of the tree

• It was a laxative and it was used to clean you out

3. Carries their twelve

“He then placed the breastpiece on him…” (v.8)

“Aaron shall carry the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgement over his heart when he enters the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually.” (Exodus 28:29).

• Carry the twelve in your heart

• The twelve were also engraved on the ephad

• Take each one to the presence of God (Exodus 28:30)

See each one as…

• Precious and important (Gems)

• Different

4. Tunes to God’s channel

“…and in the breastpiece he put the Urim and Thummim” (8:8b)

• Urimm and Thummin

• Seek the will of God for your twelve

Ask God to guide you with your twelve

5. Give his best

“He put the tunic on him and girded him with the sash, and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him” (8:7a)

“They shall also make the ephod of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen, the work of the skillful workman. It shall have two shoulder pieces joined to its two ends, that it may be joined.” (Exodus 28:6-7).

• Costly materials

• The best for the best, and the rest for the rest

6. Bears burdens

“You shall take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel, six of their names on the one stone and the names of the remaining six on the other stone, according to their birth…you shall put the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of memorial for the sons of Israel, and Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for a memorial.” (Exodus 28:9-12)

• Ministry is bearing the burdens of your twelve and placing them before the Lord in prayer

• As a memorial – every time you enter into the presence, “remind” God about your twelve

7. Dedicates totally

“Moses slaughtered it and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.” (8:23)

Dedicate your…

• Ear to hear God’s voice

• Hand to do holy ministry

• Feet to walk holy

8. Imitates their mentor

“Next Moses slaughtered it and took the blood and with his finger put some of it around on the horns of the altar…” (8:15a)

“Aaron’s sons presented the blood to him; and he dipped his finger in the blood and put some on the horns of the altar...” (9:9)

Aaron follow the pattern set by his mentor Moses

He did exactly as Moses showed him

He became qualified by following the instruction set by his mentor

GOD WILL USE YOUR MENTOR TO ADVANCE YOUR ASSIGNMENT FROM GOD

9. Yearns for glory of God

“Moses said, ‘this is the thing, which the Lord has commanded you to do, that the glory of the Lord may appear to you.” (9:6)

“Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. Then fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.” (9:23-24)
