Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:6-8 NIV

The Humility of Anxiety

The humility that will enable you to overcome anxiety is simply being humbly enough to ask God for help. If we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, He will lift you in due time. I say all the time from the pulpit I preach the most, “Prideful people don’t pray.” Prayer take a lot of humility. The more you pray the humbler you are before God. A person of humility before God does not have must anxiety. You cannot be humble before God and have anxiety at the same time. Humility before God and anxiety is like light and darkness. Light and darkness cannot exist at the sometime. Show me a person with a lot of anxiety and I will show you a person who has no prayer life. Below is a statement made by Andrew Murray about humility and prayer.

“Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me. It is to be at rest when nobody praises me, and when I am blamed or despised. It is to have a blessed home in the Lord, where I can go in and shut the door, and kneel to my Father in secret, and am at peace as in a deep sea of calmness, when all around and above is trouble.”

Do you have this humility were you can be at peace when the world is falling apart? Do you have this peace was you can find your secret place under the mighty hand of God and be at rest? Oh what a blessed person with the humility that can overcome anxiety!

The Help of Anxiety

After we learn how to humble ourselves under the mighty Hand of God. God promises to help. It seems so simple. Ask God for help. He will help. However, what can cause many Christians to stumble is the due time of the help God will send. What time is due time? If I could answer this question I would be a very rich man in the Christian faith.

You must first have faith in God for due time. Hebrews 11:1&6 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see… 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Due time only come by believing the God is real and that He has the power to move on your behalf. This is why Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Due time comes when you work for God. Due time comes when you wait for God. Due time comes when in your time God moves on your behalf.

Some of the Old folk of the Christian faith used to say, “He may not come when you want Him, but He is always on time!” A. B. Simpson says, “Difficulties and obstacles are God's challenges to faith. When hindrances confront us in the path of duty, we are to recognize them as vessels for faith to fill with the fullness and all-sufficiency of faith in God.” Have faith in God and He will help you to overcome anxiety.

The Hauling of Anxiety

Therefore, if you want help to overcome your anxiety. Learn how to haul all of your anxiety to God. Learn how to become depend upon God. Once again I have said, “Prideful people don’t pray.” Prideful people do not humble themselves. Prideful people find it hard to asked anyone for help, let alone God for help. Prideful people keep all of their problems. This is why they are so anxious. They are literally carrying the weight of their world on their shoulders. Their shoulders are tight with stress. However, someone who has and continues to humble themselves under the mighty hand of God will have no problems asking God for help. This person will learn to haul all problems to the Lord.

A story is told of a true Christian who one day found trouble knocking at his door. The Christian looked though the peephole and saw it was trouble. The Christian man turn back from the door. The Christian man than said, “Jesus it’s for you!” The Christian man let Jesus answer the door to his trouble. This is how you haul all of your troubles to the Lord. Refuse to answer the door when trouble is on your doorstep. Give it over to Jesus! Jesus can take care of whoever or whatever is at your door!
