Isaiah 33:5-6

Definition of Fear of the Lord

The fear of God in which godliness consists is the fear which constrains (compels or powerfully produces) adoration and love.

It is the fear which consists in awe, reverence, honor and worship.

It is the reflex in our consciousness of the transcendent majesty and holiness of God.

1. Holy fear is giving God preeminence He deserves.

2. He has an unsurpassed position in our hearts and in our actions.

3. We esteem His desires over our own.

4. We hate what He hates and love what & who He loves.

5. There is an inner excitement and delight in His great presence.

I. Living in with a sense of worship and adoration

A. Obedience to His Word

1. II Timothy 3:16

16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. II Peter 1:20-21

20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. 21For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

3. John 14:15,21,23

15"If you love me, you will obey what I command.

21Whoever has my commands and obeys them; he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

23Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual[a] act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

4. We are being transformed

a. Called to a higher standard

b. Rigorous pursuit of the Kingdom of God.

5. Have a renewed mind

a. Let God change our mind about His ways

b. Loving those that rub us the wrong way

c. Lord change and begin the change in me

6. Have the mind of Christ

a. Value the treasures in heaven not on earth

D. Fear of the Lord is evident when we are of one Purpose

1. Matthew 6:33

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
