CREATED IN GODS IMAGE

Read Genesis 1:1-5, 14-19, 26-27, 2:1-3,

Last week we looked primarily at the first verse in the Bible. Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” We looked at God being the creator of all things. He made the heavens and the earth and everything that is in them both.

This morning I want us to look primarily at Genesis 1:26-27.

- Genesis 1:26-27

God made man and woman and He created us in His image. You and I have been created in the image of God.

That is not a very popular idea in our society today. It certainly is not something you are going to be taught in most public school classrooms. But, I want you to know this morning, that God created you. He made you and He made you in His image.

We did not evolve. We did not come from another species. We did not descend from other animals. We were created in the image of God.

Tell someone, “You were created in God’s image.”

There are a number of reasons I know that God created me. There are number of reasons I know this was not a fluke, the result of some cosmic burp millions and millions of years ago.

I. I KNOW GOD CREATED ME AND EVOLUTION IS NOT TRUE BECAUSE

1. The Bible tells me so

I know God created me because the Bible tells me He did.

- Genesis 1:27; 2:7

- Isaiah 44:2, 24, 49:5

> Jeremiah 1:5 I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.

If evolution is true, then the entire Bible is incorrect. If evolution is true, how do I explain the fact that Genesis 1 tells me that there was light and darkness, days before there was a sun, moon and stars? That is not possible.

If evolution is true, then how is it that I am formed in the image of God? At what point did I become the image of God?

If God would lie to me about creating me, would He also then lie to me about loving me? Would He also then lie to me about saving me?

The book of John tells me that Jesus created all things. That is the same book of the Bible that contains John 3:16. How do I accept one without the other?

> Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.

That is the same book that tells me of a Shepherd who watches over me so I can walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death without fear. How can I accept one without the other?

Romans tells me that I have sinned.

> Romans 5:8 But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!

> Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

> Romans 1:20 From the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.

Ephesians tells me that I am saved by grace through faith, that I am not saved by works. But, Ephesians also tells me

> Ephesians 3:9 … God who created all things.

There are those who believe that you can take parts out of the Bible and only accept other parts. There are those who believe the Bible is inspired in spots and that they are inspired to spot the spots. I am of the mind that you have to take the whole thing, hook, line, and sinker.

> 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,

My friends, when the Bible says God created all things in 6 days and then rested on the 7th, I believe it. When the Bible says God covered the earth with a flood and destroyed everything except a family and some animals in a boat, I believe it. When the Bible says a great fish swallowed a man and then 3 days later cast him up on dry land, I believe it. When the Bible says a young boy beat a giant, that 3 men walked through a furnace, Daniel slept with some lions, a virgin gave birth to a baby, Jesus walked on water & healed the blind; when the Bible says Jesus was crucified, laid in a tob and rose 3 days later, I believe it. When the Bible says Jesus is preparing a place for me and that He is coming back one day, I believe it.
