I. EXORDIUM:

Guard our declarations and what we say, it determines if we will win or not.

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To show that David defeated Goliath because of GOD alone.

IV. TEXT:

1 Samuel 17:45 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

V. THESIS:

GOD is victorious in our lives.

VI. TITLE:

David's Victorious Declaration Over Goliath

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Authors: Samuel (Israel's last greatest judge) - some parts of it, Nathan and Gad (1 Samuel 10:25, 1 Chronicles 29:29) and some say it's Anonymous

1 Samuel 10:25 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Then Samuel told the people what the rights and duties of a king were. He wrote them down on a scroll and placed it before the Lord. Then Samuel sent the people home again.

1 Chronicles 29:29 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

All the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in The Record of Samuel the Seer, The Record of Nathan the Prophet, and The Record of Gad the Seer.

B. Purpose of writing: Account of the history of Israel from 12th to 10th B.C.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. David declared what Goliath brought

"David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin,"

1. All man-made weapons

2 Corinthians 10:4 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.

2 Chronicles 32:8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

He may have a great army, but they are merely men. We have the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles for us!” Hezekiah’s words greatly encouraged the people.

1 Samuel 17:38-40 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Then Saul gave David his own armor—a bronze helmet and a coat of mail.

David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again.

He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine.

2. There's a temptation for David to counter Goliath's weapons with King Saul's weapons but we're not fighting a physical battle and we don't use worldly weapons but what we use is first of all win over ourselves for it's our greatest enemy, like David, he "caged" or "suppressed" his 5 senses ("He picked up five smooth stones") for faith won't work if he will continue to use them, there's no use for physical weaponries either, no matter how powerful they are.

B. David also declared that the He fights the giant because the giant ridiculed GOD's armies.

"the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."

Malachi 4:3 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

On the day when I act, you will tread upon the wicked as if they were dust under your feet,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Zechariah 2:8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

After a period of glory, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies sent me against the nations who plundered you. For he said, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession.

Hosea 12:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, the Lord is his name!

1. hosts came from the Hebrew word:"tsaba" meaning mass of persons especially regularly organized for war, an army. If it's led by any other human being, no matter how well their training for war, they're still human and they are born to lose, but if they are led by the LORD GOD, then the mass of persons will become optional because no man can win versus GOD, the issue is settled. It's a serious thing, if you fight GOD and anything or anyone that belongs to GOD, you know deep within yourself you will never win and might as well commit suicide if you're facing GOD on the other side.

C. David declared He fights the giant in GOD's Name

"but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies"

2 Samuel 22:33-35 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect.

He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights.

He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.
