Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: We must remember that once we are in Jesus, we are dead to sin and alive in Him!

Focus Passage: Romans 7:1-6

Supplemental Passage: Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:11 NASB)

Introduction:

I. Unbelievers bound to the Law

a. As someone who is married is bound to that other person

b. Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:19-20 NASB)

c. The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; (1 Corinthians 15:56 NASB)

II. Believers bound to Christ who died

a. Believers die with Christ

b. Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4 NASB)

c. "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20 NASB)

III. Believers released from the Law

a. Believers are released from the Law as if widowed

b. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:11 NASB)

c. Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1 NASB)

d. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. (Romans 6:14 NASB)

Invitation: What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! (Romans 6:15 NASB)
