Defend the truth in a compromising world.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doc-trine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to them-selves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

When Brenda and I need medical attention our doctors are in Winston Salem. Each time we go there we pass a church that has a sign that reads "Contemporary service at 8:30 am, Fundamental service at 11 am Sunday and kids church Sunday nights at 7 pm." What is going on with some worship centers these days? It's very simple...compromise. I call them wor-ship centers because some are more like going to a music concert than going to church on Sunday morning.

Verse 3 of 2 Timothy chapter 4 says, For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

One of my favorite authors of commentaries and other books is Dr. Warren Wiersbe, former pastor of Moody Church in Chicago, has said: They want religious entertainment from Christian performers who will tickle their ears. We have a love for novelty in the churches today: emotional movies, pageants, foot-tapping music, colored lights, etc. The man who simply opens the Bible is rejected while the shallow religious entertainer becomes a celebrity. And verse 4 indicates that itching ears soon will become deaf ears as people turn away from the truth and be-lieve man-made fables.

That's what some churches have become....come on by and worship your way! Verse 4 says For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine....I believe that time is here but, it didn't happen overnight.

Drifting away from the truth is a slow process of compromises. If you think about it, over time little by little abortion has been debated. A few years later you would hear about abortion clinics. How did that happen? Some thought it was better to murder an unborn child than for a teenager to have a baby. Someone compromised that it would be better to kill an unborn baby than the embarrassment of parents. Harsh? Maybe but, also is murder.

Bible says its immoral to be a homosexual. Someone compromised and said "well, they have rights" Now many states make it legal to marry same sex. God does not agree with that according to the Bible. Compromising morale life and to say it's OK when it's not... is wrong. You can't change the truth of God's word and get away with it. God will judge.

When people compromise the truth of God's word in teaching, preaching and water it down to please the world then they are what Paul says here in 2 Timothy chapter 4... after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itch-ing ears;

That means even the preachers and teachers have compromised to benefit the crowds in their lustful thinking.

I believe that the truth of God's word will draw crowds also in time but, the world comes in a hurry to hear what they want to hear. There is no way my soul could be satisfied without all of the truth of the gospel of Christ Jesus in reverence and glory to Him. I believe the magnitude of Christ power and glory has been watered down by a contemporary society.

Adrian Rogers said: "It’s better to stand alone with the truth than to be wrong with a multitude. It is better to ultimately succeed with truth than to temporarily succeed with a lie.” To that I say, Amen...Love in Christ Jesus, Ronnie Miller
