Doers Not Hearers Only

Summary: The Doers of the Word were blessed and the Hearers only were deceived.
DOERS NOT HEARERS ONLY
October 18, 2009 - Sunday. p.m.
I- THE VIOLATION
A. Hurting Yourself—v.22 “deceiving your own selves” Deceiving is a great illness both mentally & spiritually. By not doing what you heard is doing things that can hurt yourself.
B. Hiding Yourself—v.24 “forgetteth what manner of man he was” This man ignored the truth about himself. He covered himself by forgetting the real person he was—Prov.28:13 The truth shall make us free—John 8:31-32.
II- THE VICTIM
A. Informed Victim—v.23 “beholding his natural face in a glass” In v.24 “for he beholdeth himself” This man is well informed, instructed, about everything in this life and the world to come.
B. Intentional Victim—v.24 “straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was” This man intentionally disobeyed the Word of God and bound to face the consequences of sin and reap the wrath of God.
C. Individual Victim—v.24 “beholdeth himself” “goeth his way” “man he was” And in v.22 “deceiving your own selves”. Although it is inevitably possible that it can ruin families and affect many lives but the deadly venom starts from one man who deceived himself.
III- THE VALUE
A. The Value of Attention—v.25 “looketh into the perfect law of liberty” There is no true liberty apart from the Word of God and the will of God. This man looketh as he intensely meditating the Holy Scriptures from his heart.
B. The Value of Abiding—v.25 “and continueth therein” The bible says answered prayer comes from abiding in God’s Holy Word.—John 15:7; II Timothy 3:14-15
C. The Value of Application—v.25 “being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work” According to this passage not only he did what he heard but was blessed because of what he did. The Lord Jesus Christ declared that blessed those that hear the Word of God and keep it—Luke 11:27-28.
