Summary: The poet Robert Frost wrote, “The reason why worry kills more people than work is because more people worry than work.”

Matthew 6:25-34-“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;

and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

It is no accident that we are looking at this scripture a week after Robin Williams died, I remember a song back in the 80’s that was sweeping the nation called….Don’t worry, be happy.

In the video Robin Williams was dancing around being his crazy self, it was infectious, because he personified being happy, but little did we know that was not the case.

The poet Robert Frost wrote, “The reason why worry kills more people than work is because more people worry than work.”

Don’t worry doesn’t mean don’t plan, it doesn’t mean that you are not suppose to plan for your future or your kids future.

The word worry means…to be pulled apart!

We are not to be worried but that does not mean we are not to be concerned!

Because when you are concerned then you are doing something or trying to do something to better the situation.

If your worrying, then most likely, your just worrying!

Jesus is trying to teach us something:

We are to lay up our treasure in heaven, we are to keep our eyes off of things that will hinder us from laying our treasures in heaven. We are to let rule over our life not our things!

But the question comes to mine, if we lay up treasure in heaven instead of on earth, how will we provide for our future and how will our physical needs like food, clothing and shelter come from?

When we worry, we become distracted and we focus on the things like food and clothing and not on the important things like serving God, worshipping God, studying about God

Remember the story about Mary and Martha. Luke 10:38-42

We can become so distracted, even when we are doing good things, nice things that we forget that God is above everything else!

Jesus gives a perfect example of how God takes care of things!

He uses the illustration of the birds, Now God takes care of them, but God does not bring it to their nest, there is work to be done gathering food, preparing nest, feeding their young!

Remember God was taking care of us before we even knew, we had needs!

When we were born, when were in our mother’s womb, when we were a baby, a toddler.

Don’t Worry About Tomorrow!

Trust me, if you are going to worry, then there is enough to worry about today!

Your health, your bills, your marriage, your children….

If worry can’t change today and it’s problems, then how is it going to change tomorrow and it’s problems!

All we can do is handle today’s problem without being distracted by tomorrow’s problems!

When we worry about what is going to happen tomorrow it will distract us enough not take care of what needs to be done today!

So how do we over come this, worry problem?

Seeking His kingdom, letting Him rule over every part of your life and being more concerned about His righteousness than your riches!!!
