Summary: Jesus is the head of the body

Expository or systematic teaching is explaining scripture verse by verse and exegesis is to explore the meaning of the text which then leads to discovering its significance or relevance.

We will do both tonight.

Col 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

Col 2:19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Tit 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind (thoughts feelings will intellect) and conscience (judgment of right and wrong) is defiled.

Tit 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, (disgusting detestable) and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Worthless rejected

Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

An understanding that flows out of the spirit

Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Col 1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet (qualified) to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

9-12Be assured that from the first day we heard of you, we haven't stopped praying for you, asking God to give you wise minds and spirits attuned to his will, and so acquire a thorough understanding of the ways in which God works. We pray that you'll live well for the Master, making him proud of you as you work hard in his orchard. As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn how to do your work. We pray that you'll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us. MESSAGE

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, (obscurity ignorance evil) and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Consistency of your world is in jesus

All things have been constituted around jesus

When he is no longer the center or the source then our world is out of control

All decisions should relate to the will of God. All major life decisions should have to do w/ jesus.

When we take jesus out of the center man becomes a mess. When we lose our center which is jesus we lose it all

Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 1st in rank and influence

Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. He is wanting to line everything back up

Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated (away non participant) and enemies(hateful) in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled .

Mind - dee-an'-oy-ah deep thought, (mind or its disposition), its exercise: - imagination, understanding.

Wicked - pon-ay-ros' hurtful, that is, evil (properly in effect or influence, indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively calamitous; ill, that is, diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, that is, derelict, vicious, mischief, malice, bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked (-ness).

Eph 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
