Don’t Miss the Target! What are you aiming for?

Hosea 7:16 NLT “They look everywhere except to heaven, to the Most High. They are like a crooked bow that always misses its target.”

The problem is we have our aim at the wrong target. Our aim is off.

“If you are aiming for nothing, you’ve already hit it.”

Worldly aims and targets focus on:

*Fame and Fortune

*Power and Position

*Self

The word target is synonymous with the words- Aim, Goal, Focus, Purpose, Plan, and Intent.

What are you shooting for or aiming at today? As you look out ahead and you focus down range at your future, what is your target? Can you see a clear purpose and plan out there?

Keep those things in mind as we look in God’s Word and find what it teaches us about what our aim and target should be.

Aim at the target of:

1. Harmony

I Corinthians 1:10 NLT Let there be real harmony so there won’t be any divisions in the church.

Romans 14:19 NLT So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

2. Honor (Honesty, Righteousness)

2 Corinthians 8:21 RSV for we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s eyes, but also in the sight of man

2 Thessalonians 5:15 GN See hat no one pays back wrong for wrong, but at all times make it your aim to do good to one another.

1 Timothy 6:11 RSV But as for you, man of God, shun all this; aim at righteousness, (honesty)

Amos 5:14 GN Make it your aim to do what is right, not what is evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty really will be with you as you claim he is.

3. Hope

Titus 1:2 Message My aim is to raise hope by pointing the way of life without end.

4. Highest Goal (love)

I Corinthians 14:1 NLT Let love be your highest goal, but also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives, especially the gift of prophecy

Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark (The target) for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

5. (pleasing) Him

II Corinthians 5:9 (NLT) So our aim is to please him always, whether we are here in this body or away from this body.

6. Jesus

Hebrews 12:2 (God’s Word) We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith.

So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision - you’ll see it yet!
