Summary: This passage teaches that I have been delivered, that I am being delivered, and that someday I will be delivered.

"DOUBLE DELIVERANCE - PLUS ONE"

II. COR. 1:10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us ;

DEF. OF DELIVERANCE: De – from - libera – to set free

Greek "huromai" to drag out of danger

A. THE TITLE: This passage teaches that I have been delivered, that I am being delivered, and that someday I will be delivered.

How can that be? If you are saved {past tense}, you have no need of being saved {present tense}, and if I am saved {past tense}, why is there a need for be to yet be saved {future tense}? I know that this may seem like a contradiction but this passage teaches this very great truth.

T/S SO LET US LOOK AT THE 3 GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT DELIVERANCE AS TAUGHT IN THIS PASSAGE.

1. GOD GRACE HAS DELIVERED ME FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN IN PAST.

2. GOD GRACE IS DELIVERED ME FROM THE POWER OF SIN IN PRESENT.

3. GOD GRACE WILL DELIVER ME FROM THE PRESENCE OF SIN IN FUTURE.

I. DELIVERED FROM THE PENALTY OF SIN.

THE PENALTY OF SIN IS DEATH. Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Heb 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

The very moment I put my faith in Jesus Christ, God saved me once and for all for ever and ever from the awful Penalty of sin; Eternal death, eternal separation from God.

JOHN 5:24, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall Not come into condemnation; but is {already} passed {over out of} death into life.

4. Our salvation and deliverance is predicated by what Jesus did one time in the past and we have nothing to do with that salvation except just accepting it. The work was accomplished on the cross.

COL. 2:13,14, And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

II. DELIVERED FROM THE POWER OF SIN.

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Jesus said, "Without me you can do nothing", but He told us that we have the power of the Holy Spirit and with him we can do all things that God want to accomplish in life.

Some time ago, a teenager, Arthur Hinkley, lifted a 3,000-pound tractor with his bare hands. He wasn’t a weight lifter, but his friend, Lloyd, was pinned under a tractor on a farm near Rome, Maine. Hearing Lloyd scream, Arthur somehow lifted the tractor enough for Lloyd to wriggle out. Love motivated him to do it.

Our Father in heaven heard the screams of lost humanity, crying out for deliverance. He sent His one and only precious Son to the cross so that our sins could be lifted off of us and on to Himself. Love motivated Him to do it.

III. DELIVERANCE THE VERY PRESENCE OF SIN.

A. We have a future inheritance:

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

B. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye:

CON:

September 11th, 2001 just past 9:00am, Stanley Praimnath, Vice President for Fuji Bank, was in his office in the South Tower at WTC when his phone rang. “Are you watching the news?’ asked a woman the Chicago office. “Are you alright?” “I’m fine” he said wondering why she had called. Just then he turned to gaze out the window at the Statue of Liberty, as had been his routine. The surreal sight of a low-flying commercial jet, heading straight for his tower disrupted his view. He dropped the phone in mid-sentence and dove to the floor. Curling under his desk he began praying to God, “Lord, help me” he prayed desperately as the aircraft smashed into the tower.
