1. Energy Needed - v.3

- Vultures dropped one by one

- They did not have a new source of energy

- There will be times of exhaustion, confusion

Psalm 138:3 (AV)

— 3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.

Ps 138:3 (NET) ‎

When I cried out for help, you answered me. You made me bold and energized me.

Psalm 138:7 (AV)

— 7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

Psalm 138:1 (AV)

— 1 I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee

- The gods of this world dries up our life

- Twice in v.1 was a singular focus "I will praise thee"

Ahab & Elijah - 1Ki. 16-19

- I Ki. 16:32 - Ahab worshiped Baal

- Highest Babylonian god

- The weather god, god of the sun, (lightning was his weapon)

- god of fertility

- Meaning - Master, owner

- Baal involved sexual immorality - (pleasing the flesh)

- To appease Baal the firstborn had to be sacrificed

- Prayer to Baal was done with loud ecstatic cries & self-inflicted injury

Psalm 138:2 (AV)

— 2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

- What is truly valuable?

- Our habits & pursuits points to our worship

- Temple the spot of God's dwelling place

- Jesus had the fullness of God

3. Energize With Understanding - v.2

- Ephesians 3:19 (AV) (Eph. - Christ My Wealth)

— 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

— 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

— 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

His Lovingkindness

- How merciful is love toward us

His Truth

- He is found to be faithful to His promise

His Word Is Magnified

- It is his word which creates, sustains, enlivens, enlightens, and comforts

- Three Gospels have the same verse

4. Energize When Depleted - v.7

Psalm 138:7 (AV)

- Thou he walks in trouble he does not walk alone

- Psalm 94:19 (AV)

— 19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

Job 35:10 (AV)

— 10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

- Psalm 27:5 (AV)

— 5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

5. Energize With Joy - v.5

Psalm 138:5 (AV)

— 5 Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD.

- There Is Praise - Singing

- In The Way

- You do not have to go out of the way to find pleasure

- You can sing as you go on your way

- For great is the glory of God

6. Energized By Him - v.8

- Psalm 138:8 (AV)

— 8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

- Back to Elijah - 1Ki. 19:2-3

- He was in despair

- Jezebel was seeking his life

- He had enough - 1 Ki. 19:4

- He saw the wrong things

- He has not called us to be discouraged & defeated

- Elijah was living on assumptions

- He assumed he was forsaken -1 Ki. 19:14, 18

- He assumed he was finished - 1 Ki. 19:15
