Enough Is Enough!

Matthew 4:1-4:11

Back in the disco music time, there was a song that said, “Enough is enough.” Donna Summer stated in this song, “enough is enough; I can’t go on no more.” She had been in a relationship that she finally saw was going nowhere. She saw that it was time for her to move on and do better. She saw that it was time to stop putting up with all the heartache and pain; all the sorrow and wrongdoing; all the misdirection and misinformation; it was time to say enough is enough.

Brothers and sisters, just like Donna Summer, there should come a time in our lives that we should see the devil for who he really is, the author of sin. We should see that his only purpose is to convince us to go against God’s will. He is trying to bring us down and not let us get up. We need to get up and shake the devil off. We need to put him under our feet. We need to take a stand and tell him, “Enough is Enough.”

In our text, not only was Jesus tired of the devil messing with Him, but His children ought to be tired of him as well. The devil is always sticking his nose somewhere that he has no business. We should be tired of him stealing our Joy, we should be tired of him taking things from us, and we should be tired of him trying to kill us as well as our family and friends.

If you don’t remember anything else about this message, remember that the devil will always try to give you something, or convince you do something for him, so he can have power of you. That’s why the song says, “Don’t let the devil ride. If you let him ride he will want to drive.”

Looking back a few verses before our text, Matthew 3:16-17, “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” After that Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted of the (tempter), the devil. After He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, Jesus was hungry and tired. This is when the devil likes to step in, after you have fasted (no food), prayed (no sleep), and changed your ways (trying to do right).

When you seem to be at your weakest, that’s when the devil really gets busy. But, brothers and sisters, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! In order for us to be able to say, "Enough is enough" we must be prepared! 1 Corinth. 2:9 (But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him"). Satan always will try to get you to do something other than what you are supposed to do.

He told Jesus to command the stones be made bread, so He could feed Himself. However, Jesus said, It Is Written, man should not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God! The devil will tell you to stop trusting God, and God said to put all your trust in the Lord, and lean not unto your own understanding. It’s time to tell the devil, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Secondly, we must Be Patient!

Rom. 15:4-5 (For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus). Brothers and sisters when God is ready to promote you, the devil always wants you to promote yourself.

The devil took Jesus up into a Holy city and tells Him, to cast Himself down, because God won’t let anything happen to Him. And then the devil even quoted a little scripture, he said; He shall give His angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they shall bear thee up, least at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

However, Jesus said, It Is Written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. When God tells you that you are going to be a great singer, deacon, pastor, etc., that doesn’t mean for you to go out and try to make the way plain for yourself, so people can say; look at him with his bad self; look at her she knows she can sing. No God is saying, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We must realize that whatever gift we have, God gave them to us.
