Matt.12:25 says, “Every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.” In that statement, Jesus is actually defending His authority before those who said He was working by Satan’s power rather than God’s. He was simply reminding them of this argument: if He were casting out a demon by Satan’s power, then Satan would be working against himself. That would divide Satan’s kingdom and bring it down. It is also evident that this can be applied to a home, a church, or anything else. A divided home will not be able to stand. Satan is making a very diligent effort to destroy every home, and even Christian homes, whenever He can do so. There are some essential ingredients that every home needs; these things are indispensable and necessary.
I. Uncompromised Fidelity- The husband and wife must be true to one another in any and every circumstance. Fidelity speaks of a strict observance of promises, loyalty and faithfulness. Three things at least should motivate that unwavering faithfulness.
A. Love for God.
B. Love for your partner.
Real love does not want to hurt, injure, or offend your marriage partner. Real love involves the giving of yourself completely to another (Eph.5:25).
C. Longing for a good name.
It should motivate you to loyalty to your marriage partner. “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches” (Prov.22:1).
II. Unwavering Faith- Faith in Christ should be like cement or glue to the marriage bond.
A. Faith is imparted by God (Eph.2:8).
B. Faith is strengthened by the Bible (Rom.10:17).
C. Faith is revealed to our children(2 Tim. 1:5).
Let faith work in your home life and add its adhesive effect to your home. Faith produces a positive effect.
III. Urgent Forgiveness- Golden words in marriage are, “Please forgive me.” Forgive for what?
A. For a lack of consideration (absence of thoughtfulness-Eph.4:32).
B. For a lack of control (bursts of temper–Prov.16:32). When you lose your temper you say things you regret having said later.
C. For a lack of companionship (being there for the one your married). Be a friend to your husband or wife, in fact, his or her BEST friend.
Make sure you have uncompromised fidelity, an unwavering faith, and an urgency for forgiveness.
