Do you have eternal life now?

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To show the coverage of eternal life in a CHRISTian's life

IV. TEXT:

John 3:36 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

John 3:36 (Amplified Bible)

And he who believes in (has faith in, clings to, relies on) the Son has (now possesses) eternal life. But whoever disobeys (is unbelieving toward, refuses to trust in, disregards, is not subject to) the Son will never see (experience) life, but [instead] the wrath of God abides on him. [God’s displeasure remains on him; His indignation hangs over him continually.]

V. THESIS:

VI. TITLE:

Eternal Life by Faith in JESUS

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: Apostle John

B. Key Thoughts: Faith and Eternal Life

C. Date of Writing: Uncertain, probably late in the first century

D. Main Purpose: To inspire faith in JESUS CHRIST as the Son of GOD

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Faith in JESUS CHRIST has Eternal life

1. Believes came from Greek word: "pisteou" meaning to have faith in, upon, or with respect to a person, by implication to entrust, believe, commit.

a. Characteristics of our eternal life:

1. It is gained by faith in JESUS CHRIST. (Habakkuk 2:4,Romans 1:17,Galatians 3:11)

Habakkuk 2:4 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.

Habakkuk 2:4 (New Century Version)

The evil nation is very proud of itself; it is not living as it should. But those who are right with God will live by trusting in him.

Romans 1:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

Galatians 3:11 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

2. We gained it by listening to GOD's message (John 5:24)

John 5:24 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.

3. We have to know we have eternal life (1 John 5:11-13)

1 John 5:11-13 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

4. We are waiting for crown of life (James 1:12)
