Summary: Does Jesus still heal people who have faith in Him? What does His healing provide? This sermon answers those questions.

Faith Healing

2 Kings 20:1-7

[1] In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, "Thus says the Lord: 'Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.' "

[2] Then he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, [3] "Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

[4] And it happened, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

[5] "Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, 'Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.

[6] And I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake, and for the sake of My servant David." ' "

[7] Then Isaiah said, "Take a lump of figs." So they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

Faith is a big part of the Christian life.

Do you believe that prayer changes things?

Do you think that prayer changes the mind of God?

In our text today, the prophet Isaiah told King Hezekiah

that he was going to die.

Obviously, God had hold told Isaiah that the King would die.

Nevertheless, Hezekiah prayed and God changed His mind.

So sometimes God does change His mind

and He answers prayers for healing.

Faith healing is a big business for millionaire preachers

and has given a poor reputation to faith healing.

Recently I saw on TV a preacher urging people to send in

for his healing water packets.

Now please don’t misunderstand me.

I do believe God will heal people.

I don’t believe that Televangelists heal people.

They always want a big audience when they put on their shows.

If those guys truly are healers,

why don’t they quietly slip into a hospital

and perform a healing for cancer patients?

I believe they are a disgrace to the Christian movement.

They have made us skeptical through their scandalous behavior.

However, I know of people who have prayed

and they have been healed.

The reality is that Jesus was a healer

There are several places in the 4 Gospels where Jesus heals people.

So today we will explore the topic of Faith Healing.

Point #1.Faith in Jesus brings Hope.

There are 3 stages of faith.

The first stage is Belief.

People refuse to believe what they don’t want to believe,

in spite of evidence.

When explorers first went to Australia

they found an animal that laid eggs; spent time in water and land,

had a broad, flat tail, webbed feet,

and a bill similar to a duck.

When they return to England,

they told the people about this animal

and the people said it was a hoax.

The explorers returned to Australia

found a pelt from this animal and took it back to England,

but the people still felt it was a hoax.

In spite of the evidence, they disbelieved

because they didn’t want to believe.

We know the facts!

We know of people who know the facts about Jesus,

but it is not enough to just believe.

Jesus got His disciples together and asked them,

“Who do you say I am?”

That brings is to Step 2.

Many people believe there really was a Jesus,

but that is not the question.

Do we accept Jesus as a source of truth and power for your lives?

There are many who believe in the historical facts,

but it makes no difference at all in their lives.

Well the message today is the same as it was in Jesus’ day.

Faith brings Hope.

Hope of something certain and something better.

If you want to have complete faith

you have to do more than believe.

You have to accept.

But that’s not all you need.

Step 3 is Assurance

We can be assured of this “Jesus is Lord”

Jesus is in control.

We need to have assurance that Jesus will deliver.

That is what gives us hope .

Hope is what brings people to Jesus.

In Mark chapter 5, a woman needed healing of a blood disease.

Doctors had not been able to help her.

Hope is what brought her to the edge of the garment of Jesus.

Hope is a powerful factor of our lives.

Jesus brings us Hope.
