Summary: How to overcome fear, stress.

FIVE WAYS TO COMBAT FEAR PT 2

EPH 4 VS 4-9

Philippians 4:4-9 (NKJV)

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.

9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

1. INITIATE A CONVERSATION WITH GOD- PRAYER, SUPPLICATION, PRAY WITH THANKSGIVING, AND MAKE SPECIFIC REQUESTS KNOWN TO GOD:

Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

A. PRAY- THIS IS WHEN WE SET ASIDE A SPECIFIC TIME OF DEVOTION AND WORSHIP- PRAYER IS WORSHIP! I TRULY BELIEVE THAT IN OUR HUSTLE BUSTLE GENERATION, PEOPLE HAVE LAID DOWN THE “OLD FAMILY ALTAR” AND HAVE ONLY PRACTICED THE “FEEL GOOD” PRAYER LIFE WHICH IS “GOD WHEN I NEED YOU I WILL CALL.” MENTALITY. WE NEED TO INTENTIONALLY SET ASIDE A TIME WITH GOD, EVERYDAY TO PRAISE AND WORSHIP HIM, AND THAT WILL BRING FORTH PRAYER THAT HAS NOT BEEN HEARD OF IN OUR GENERATION!

EXAMPLE:

Daniel 6:10 (NKJV)

10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.

B. SUPPLICATION- THIS IS A DEEP FORM OF PRAYER IN WHICH WE POUR OUT OUR SOUL UNTO GOD- NEED, GREAT NEED CONFRONTS US AND WE COME AS A CHILD, CRYING, BEGGING FOR HIS HELP, DELIVERANCE, AND PEACE.

EXAMPLE:

Luke 22:39-46 (NKJV)

39 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.

40 When He came to the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."

41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed,

42 saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done."

43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.

44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

45 When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.

46 Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation."

Acts 1:8-14 (NKJV)

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,

11 who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.

13 And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

C. WITH THANKSGIVING- OUR PRAYERS SHOULD ALWAYS BE SEASONED WITH THANKSGIVING, NO GREATER EXAMPLE OF PRAYERS LIKE THIS WERE MADE THAN THOSE BY JESUS:

EXAMPLE:

Matthew 6:9-13 (NKJV)

9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
