Follow Me

Mark 1:14

14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom[e] of God,

15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

16 And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

18 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

19 When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets.

20 And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

Pray

This was early in the public ministry of Jesus

He continued to preach and minister to people

The more He did the more He was well known

His fame began to spread all around

People began to talk about Jesus_____ And wanted to see Him

They wanted to see if all the roomers were true

They wanted to see the Man who turned the water into wine

The man who was healing all those people

They warned to see the Man John the Baptizes said was the Son of God

The one who cast out demons

His fame had also begun to gather the attention of the religious elite of that day

They were looking for the Messiah to come

They were looking for the King

They where looking for the one to save them

But Jesus did not meet their expectations

Jesus was viewed as a common man

He was not like them

He did not spend all His time in the Church

His ministry was not like theres was..

He was different

Even in His own town they did not believe what He was saying

They said is this not the son of David the carpenter

Is this not His mother and brothers here

Where does He get this authority

You see they where to busy looking at His poor childhood

They where more concerned that He was a carpenter

They looked at His lack of education as a stumbling block

He did not fit the bill of the Messiah they had in mind

Thats the problem with Christians they want to look at the outside

They want to look at how the person looks____ or the color of their skin

They think that the way a person looks or dresses defines them

How could an old drunk ever do anything for the kingdom of God

How could someone who has been married 5 times do anything for God

How could someone covered in tattoos lead anyone to the Lord

How could anyone who has been in prison do anything for God

Well I am glad you asked

John the Baptizes was in prison

Joseph was in prison

Paul was in prison

John the who Jesus loved was in prison on the Island of Patmos

Let me tell you something

Who are we to decide who God can and can’t use for His glory

We are not called to be judges of people we are called to be fishers of men!

_____________________________________________________________

I promise you God will never ask you____ what you think about someone?

He will never ask your opinion on how someone looks

God will never ask you your permission for him to save someone

God is God and He don’t see others how we see others

Why don’t we just let God be the judge and us love everyone

Amen

To them Jesus would never be more then a carpenter

He would never be more then just a poor man to them

How could He preform miracles He is from the poor part of town

Thats how some of us view people now

To them you will never be more then an alcoholic

To them you will always be just a drug addict who they cant trust

To them you will always be a loser

To them you will always be someone who never finishes what they start

You see people cant see past what they think of you —To see what He thinks of you

People can’t view you the same way the father does

He alone can see what you will become

Amen

Notice in our text Jesus had just passed by some common foke

They where fishermen

And Jesus extended the call Follow me

Notice I said they where common people

People like you and me

He was searching for men who would change the world

Notice in His search He did not go to the temple or the Synagogues
