Four Things People Do With Their Sins

FOUR THINGS PEOPLE DO WITH THEIR SINS

Genesis 3:6-12

Intro: There is not a person in this building that is perfect. Every one of us has made mistakes. But where we get in trouble with our mistakes is when we fail to admit we are wrong and get it behind us. The same thing goes for sin. The reason sin crops up and begins to manifest itself in us is because we fail to admit we have sinned and get it behind us. Instead we try to deal with it by other means. I want to preach the subject “FOUR THINGS PEOPLE DO WITH THEIR SINS”

I. BLAME YOUR SIN ON SOMEONE ELSE

A. You have no one to blame but yourself.

B. In the text scripture we find Adam blaming Eve for his sin

1. (v 12) And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

C. Adam blamed it on Eve but he got drove out of the garden just like she did

II. TRY TO HIDE YOUR SIN

A. Joshua & we find the account of Achan

B. Achan was plainly told not to take of the “accursed theing” but he did anyhow

C. He took the gold and silver and good Babylonish garment and hid them in his tent

D. But sin cannot be hidden long. Sooner or later it will come to the surface unless it is dealt with in a scriptural manner

III. TRY TO JUSTIFY YOUR SIN

A. I Samuel 15 Saul is given orders to destroy to the Amalekites and everything with tem

B. Saul goes but spares Agag and the best ship and oxen and brings them back

C. Samuels asks Saul if he has done all that has been commanded him and Saul exclaims he has

D. (1Sa 15:19) Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

E. (1Sa 15:20) And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

F. (1Sa 15:21) But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

IV. YOU CAN CONFESS THEM

A. (1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

B. We would be a lot better off if when we sinned we would admit to it, confess it to Christ and if someone has been hurt make it right with them
