Summary: When a love one dies, God’s promises do not seem to make sense. Listen to God’s reply to many of our questions.
“If we live, it is for the Lord that we live, and if we die, it is for the Lord that we die. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8
On behalf of our entire family, we would like to thank all of you for the overwhelming display of support and sympathy through your presence and your prayers. You have truly made this difficult time so much easier for us.
Bro Rico’s life was marked with miracles upon miracles. When he was first diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, the doctors said he will not live long. That was 8 years ago. When it resurfaced again, they said he would not respond to treatment. That was 2 years ago. When he was hospitalized this time, they said he had hours to live, but it turned to many days and nights. So we never lost hope and people involved with his condition were all blessed by the strength of his character.
My journey with Bro Rico’s condition unfolded a deeper understanding of God’s love, care and guidance as we walked day by day in his Word. When he was admitted on the 5th of July, The Lord said in Psalm 55:22 to cast our burdens to him and He will sustain us. The following day, he gave me Isaiah 52:10. He said he will use his holy power to save his people and the whole world will see it. The next day, he gave me Bro Rico’s verse: Psalm 118:17, “I will not die; instead I will live and proclaim what the Lord has done.” Each day I got up with unbelievable strength that allowed me to perform the extraordinary care he needed as his condition got worse.
On the 8th, The Lord spoke to me in James 1:12. He said, “Happy are those who remain faithful under trials because when they succeed in passing those tests, they will receive as their reward the life which God promised to those who love him”. The next day, he told me to prophesy to the dry bones in Ezekiel 37:4-6. He said, “Prophesy to the bones. Tell these dry bones to listen to the Word of the Lord. Tell them that I, the Sovereign Lord, am saying to them: I am going to put breath in you and bring you back to life. I will give you sinews and muscles and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you and bring you back to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” And so I did. That afternoon, he spoke to me Job 36: 22-26. It said” Remember how great is God’s power; he is the greatest teacher of all. No one can tell God what to do or accuse him of doing evil. He has always been praised for what he does. You must also praise him.” And so we did. That night, he would on the respirator as his breathing became shorter and shorter.
The doctors expected him to “crash” any moment. Again, they said, he had hours to live. So you can just imagine how amazed the doctors were when they found him the next morning sitting up on his bed, without any breathing apparatus attached to his face, watching TV just after having breakfast. That morning, The Lord gave me 1 Kings 17:21-22. There, the prophet Elijah stretched out his body to the dead boy and prayed 3 times: “O Lord my God, restore this child to life.” The Lord answered his prayer and the child started breathing again.
