Getting it all together – as a Father.

Texts: Proverbs 20:7 - The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Introduction: Today has been declared Fathers’ Day to honour the fathers in our life. Father are precious and are worthy of our honour. They have taken lots of risks in order to make sure the family survive first and then thrive.

We are referred to as Fathers today because we have fruit(s), this could be biological, adopted, spiritual. When we provide Leadership roles, we are often referred to as Fathers. We are privileged to be so named after God, because God is the Father of all Fathers.

The world we are in is continually becoming challenging to live

Getting it all together as a Father simply means to hold all our responsibilities, duties and obligations to human and to the Lord and fail not in any of them.

For example as a father we hold obligation to the children to train them in the way of the Lord

PROVERBS 22:6 KJV "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." ….

Obligations to the Lord

To Worship and honour God in righteousness and provides leadership in this regard first to the Family, and then others

What are the obligations of a Father to Family

To the the Children.

• Training and mentoring

• Discipline when require

• Leadership

Ephesians 6:4: "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Proverbs 1:8: "Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching."

Obligation to the wife

Loving, Caring for the wife and provide

To the entire Family

Protects the Family

Provides for the family

Provides Leadership at all time

Obligations in Business and Career : These responsibilities are enormous and may be challenging.

A man could fall into depression if his job is not going on well because. Job or Career to a man is a matter of life and death.

1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel

A man’s head is messed up if his business or career is messed up.

Above all , Fatherhood is about providing sound Leadership to our household and Community.

What the Bible says about Leadership?

Leaders are servants first.

“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” Matthew 20:26

Leaders are strong and steadfast. “But those who wait on the Lord, Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

Proverbs 24:10- If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.

Great leaders are tactful.

Proverbs 29:11 - “A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back.”

They know when to keep quiet, when to argue, whom to argue with and when not to argue.

Great leaders know when to open their mouths. They are very thoughtful and calm.

Good leaders are willing to take advice.

Fathers and Leaders recognise the fact that they not always right and they human afterall, so they listen to advice. For example, they take advice from their wife. Prov 11:14 -“Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory.”

Conclusions: May the Lord help us to be excellent in our fatherly roles.

It’s not by our power, we are not sufficient by our ourselves, our sufficiency is of the Lord.

Prayer Points:

Help me oh Lord to be fulfilled as Father.

Where I have failed, help oh Lord to redeem and restore me.

Let me not miss my reward here on earth and in Heaven as a Father.
