BECOMING A “GO & DO” CHURCH/PEOPLE

TEXT: Matthew 28: 19,20; Mark 16:15

INTRO: There is a big problem in about 70% of all Christian Churches today we are going to address the problem and we are going to look at how we as a church are addressing the problem.

From the time of Moses, David, & Solomon until the death of Christ… worship of God was confided to a place or building.

Whether it was a tent or temple the presence of God was always worshiped in one place… That is, until the death of Christ when the veil that separated man from the presence of God was ripped, torn and no longer do we have to go to a temple to worship God.

The Word of God tells us that no longer shall the presence of God dell in buildings of brick or stone or mortar but in the human heart, a heart of flesh.

Paul the apostle says that we now have this treasure in earthen vessels. (Clay pots, Jars of Clay) are bodies now carry in it the presence of God. Hidden in us, “We” a common thing. Not a vessel of jewels or precious metals, But common, earthly - fleshly bodies. Bodies that fall apart and lose there hair, their strength at times. Oh how the scripture rings true here about how God takes the simply things of this world to confound the wise.

God never meant for His presence to dwell in one place, nor for His church to be a “come & see” church. God always has meant for his people the church to be a “Go & Do” church

What do I mean by this?

The definition of a “Come & See” and a “Go & Do” church:

1. “COME & SEE Church”

Inward focused churches that are more worried about money, attendance, & membership then in reaching the community. They talk about the importance of outreach but they don’t really do anything . We call this the Hunker-in-the-bunker mentality.

ILLUSTRATION: Church A: is an inward focused church that talked a lot about outreach or about what the church use to do. They may try to do1 or 2 per year but they where geared for the church folks or for the backslidden but even when someone new got saved there was not discipleship and they let the new convert slip right through there fingers and backslide, there was no follow-up ….well they never really back slid because the never got the chance to move forward. No one help them, no one help these people get connected to the family, the family of GOD!

2. “GO & DO Church”

Outward focused church that is all about making quality touches in the community and meeting the needs of others by doing acts of kindness in random or strategic ways. These type of churches are more concerned with people and the overall mission of the church. Growth is not there goal but touch peoples lives. We call this the Hoisting-up-of-the-sails and-riding-the-waves of the ever-changing culture by keeping the message the same but by using different methods of telling the message to reach people.

ILLUSTRATION: Church B: is a certain church that is putting 5 to 10% of there annual budget into reaching the community. The are about making quality touches and they are using tools like servant evangelism, feeding programs, social skill development, small groups, tons of outreach each month. This church on average has 12 different outreaches going out each month into the communities and touching lives and making those quality touches I have talked about. Does there church look nice of course, they do everything in excellence to reach people with the life changing method of the gospel and when people are saved or rededicate there lives this church has opportunities in place for discipleship from life groups to a connections café to monthly classes offered one Saturday a month.

Why should we become a GO & DO Church?

Jesus commanded it Matthew 28: 19,20

“Go therefore and Make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Vs20 Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you and lo I am with you always even to the end of the age.”

Apostle Paul Exhorts us To be all things to all people

For the sake of time I want read this: 1 Corinthians 9: 19-23

19Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
