Now God’s message to us this day.

God Blessed America

In the latter part of the 1400s, Christopher Columbus dreamed and hoped to discover a new all water trade route between Europe and Asia. For over three hundred years, most of the products that the Europeans received were shipped or imported by land. Sometimes this would take over a year, before they would arrive with the goods. The growing demand for these imports played a great part in the discovery of America.

In 1492, Columbus set out on the first of four great voyages which he would make. He sailed under the flag of Spain, and began to look for his all water trade route. On the morning of October 12, 1492, Columbus landed on an Island and went ashore; he called the name of it San Salvador, now known as the Bahamas. As they reached the shore, the first thing Columbus

did was with his men, kneel down on the sandy shore,

and thank God for their safe voyage. After Columbus returned and told of this new land, many set out to see it. They came in search of wealth, and power, but most either died or left broken.

Spain came searching for gold, and wealth, but they were stopped by England. Sir Walter Raleigh spent his entire fortune trying to explore this new world, but failed. He is credited for naming the state of Virginia.

Just after Columbus discovered this new world, conflict broke out. The conflict was in Europe, and during that time, most people were Roman Catholics. The conflict started when a group of men began to question some of the beliefs and practices of the Church. These men were the ones who started the Reformation, or Protestant organizations. Two of these men were, Martin Luther, and John Calvin. The Catholic Church called it a revolt, but Protestants called it the Reformation. The results were wars, and many individuals were burned at the stake during this time. England then under King Henry the eighth, set up the Anglican Church. Everyone regardless of belief was to attend and contribute to this State Church. There were those however, who would not follow this Church, these were called separatists, independents, and conformists. The Pilgrims were one of these groups.

The Pilgrims left Europe and came to this new world to worship God! They wanted freedom to serve God as the Word of God had led them too! The day after they anchored off shore of this continent, was a Saturday, and the next day Sunday, was spent on board the ship in prayer and thanksgiving. They survived and grew, when two nations had failed. But they survived and grew because:

1- They started with God

2- They had faith in God!

3- They loved God!

4- They had a devotion for each other!

America then grows and there is a need for education, the education to share the Word of God with their children and those about them. The first school was started for just that reason. The first text book was; The Bible. Their first teaching was that God in heaven was to be first in their lives, BUT, Where have we come to today? America, the land blessed so mightily by the Almighty; Where are we today? Surely every nation knows how blessed we have been for some 225 years. They know of our military might which protects us as a people, they know of our financial strength, most of the world nations have at some time or another been helped by America. But some still hate us because we are free from the bondage of religions! We serve the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, to save us from our sins. We wanted and still want freedom to worship God, anywhere, at any time. In the last few years however, something has changed!
