1. Where’s God?

2. Does He care?

3. Is He in control?

I. GOD ABSOLUTE RULE

From our text in today’s message we read:

“Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and in all deep places.”

With these words David declares the sovereignty of God above His creation. God does whatever He pleases, and works out every event to bring about accomplishment of His will.

“For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back? (Isaiah 14:27)

“He doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth, and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Dan. 4:35).

“My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure” (Isa. 46:10).

Arthur Pink commented:

“God never consulted man about a single member of His body, or about its size, color, or capacity; instead, "God set the members everyone of them in the body, as it hath pleased Him" (1 Cor. 12:18). Man is as truly the product of Sovereign creation as any other of God’s creatures--sovereign, we say, not arbitrary.”

There is no attribute of God more comforting and delightful to his children than his great and glorious sovereignty. There is no truth of Holy Scripture for which we must more earnestly contend than God’s dominion over all creation, his sovereignty over all the works of his hands, the supremacy of his throne and his right to sit upon it.

What is Sovereignty? Sovereignty means our Omniscience, Omnipotent God reigns in realms beyond our comprehension to bring about a plan beyond our ability to alter, hinder, thwart, or stop. In other words it concerns with His Absolute rule and control over all His creation. God exercises His sovereignty, exercises it both in the natural realm, and in the spiritual.

According to Scientism, God is limited in his power because He is subject to the laws of nature. God is limited, imperfect, bound by various laws.

Even some Christians failed to acknowledge the controlling hand of God. One wrote, “In creating man with a free will and making him a partner in the rule of the earth, God limited himself. He made himself dependent on what man would do. Man by his prayer would hold the measure of what God could do in blessing.”

The Indian Ocean Tsunami disaster last December 26, 2004 had led to debate among religious leaders over whether the mass destruction was a warning from God. Anglican Archbishop wrote:

“Every single random, accidental death is something that should upset a faith bound up in comfort and ready answers. Face with paralyzing magnitude of disaster like this, we feel naturally outraged- and also more deeply helpless”

Brothers and sisters, if you have such thinking, get rid of it. Any statement that is based on the assumption of God’s limitedness or luck of sufficient power is non-biblical and therefore not true.

Divine sovereignty means that God sits upon the throne of universal dominion, directing ALL things, ruling ALL things, and working ALL things “after the counsel of his own will” (Eph. 1:11).

We read in Romans 11:34-36 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? Or who has first given to him that it might be paid back to him again? For from Him and through Him and to Him are ALL THINGS. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

II GOD RULE IN THE LIFE OF HUMAN BEINGS

A. God’s sovereignty is displayed in all the works of His daily providence. In divine providence, God almighty sovereignly accomplishes his eternal purpose of grace in predestination. We read in Romans 8:29-30, “For those whom He foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom called he justified; and those whom he justified he glorified.”

“In him we were also chosen, having predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will’ (Eph. 1:11)

No one can thwart the plan of God for His people. When He acts, no one can reverse it; no one change it or hold it back. As Psalm 138:8 says, “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me.

Also we read in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, ‘declares the Lords, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future.’” .
