Title: God is Faithful

Text: 1 Cor 1:1-9 (v.9)

INTRODUCTION:

Read the words from “Great is Thy Faithfulness” Hymn #54.

Tonight we are going to see how we can find that faithfulness in the Eternal One and then because of that faithfulness we should be able to trust God more and more.

First, lets look at the faithfulness of God. We can find many biblical passages outside of our passage tonight that confirm God’s faithfulness.

In 1 John 1:9 we read, “…if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins…”

In Heb 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever…”

There are countless occurrences in Scripture that attest to God’s faithfulness to His creation. God is faithful to us, regardless how UNFAITHFUL we are to Him, as we find in Eph 5:9 where the Bible tells us that, “…even while were yet sinners, Christ died (was faithful unto death) for us…”

God is faithful and the Bible attributes that faithfulness, but lets look at some specific areas in which God IS faithful.

1st God is faithful in His plan and purpose for all of humanity. His plan is intended for ALL people. God’s plan is for all of humanity be free moral beings. God has placed within the human experience the freedom of choice and God does NOT intervene and try to MAKE us do anything.

He is faithful to His plan… for it has been His plan from eternity past…before the foundation of the world.

God’s plan also includes Him having a relationship with all who come to Him. God is faithful to that part of His master plan as well. This was the purpose for all creation to fellowship with God. To fellowship with God and come to redemption in Him. God is faithful in that He has provided a way for us to fellowship with Him and to come to redemption in Him. The way that God provided was in the person of Jesus Christ. Through Jesus Christ, God is faithful to all humanity.

But not only is God faithful in his plans and purposes for humanity, I can also see God is faithful in his promises and power.

In Heb 10:23 the Bible says, “…let us hold unswervingly to the hope that we profess, for He who promised is faithful…”

In Mark 11:24 the Bible tells us that the Lord is faithful in delivering on His promises.

In Phil 4:19 we find the Bible sharing with us that God is faithful in providing for all our needs in life.

In John 14:18 we find the Bible telling us how God is faithful in His promises of sending to us a comforter.

We can see that God is faithful in his promises of redemption, reward and judgment.

Finally I can see where God is also faithful in His presence and patience. His is with His servant in Christian work. (Matt 28:20) in the valley of despair (Ps 23) and in any circumstance. In Psalm the writer tells us that there is NO place one can hide from God’s spirit (Ps 139:7)

God, the eternal chosen One, the ruler of the universe still has time for me, because God is faithful to his purpose and plan, because God is faithful to His promises and power, and finally God is faithful in His presence and patience towards His creation.

God is faithful, God NEVER changes and Scripture bears this out, so what are we to do about it once we finally realize the faithfulness of God?

Because God is faithful, I believe that those who call themselves Christians have to learn to trust Him more and more. And those who cannot call themselves Christians because they have not accepted Christ…must learn to trust God for the very first time.

For us to share in God’s faithfulness and his plans, purposes, power, promises, and presence… one has to trust Jesus Christ for their salvation. We cannot realize God’s faithfulness to the fullest extent until we trust in Christ for salvation.

We must lay aside all excuses. We must tear down the human relativity that causes us to accept evil. And we must place our full and complete faith and trust in Jesus Christ… for we can see that He is faithful and trustworthy with our soul.

After we have made our profession of faith, we must move onto seek out the will of God for our life. Within our own ability we cannot make the most out of our lives… only Christ can fulfill and confirm within us His knowledge, wisdom and courage… all which we can only grasp through HIM,
