Summary: Salvation only in Christ

TRUCKERS CHAPEL:

TITLE: God is no respecter of persons

SCRIPTURE: Romans 2:11 "For there is no respect of persons with God."

PROPOSITION: to use this text and others to show that God is no respector persons, and that no sinner can be brought into loving favor with him unless that sinner comes to God through Christ, and also to show that any sinner no matter how vile or Wicked they may have lived can find a full pardon and forgiveness through Christ because the virtue and value of His blood has made a redemptive purchase for all who will recieve him.

1.) In what way have unregenerate men attempted to gain God's respect and favor.

A. Many have attempted to gain God's favor by the clothes they wear, some have contrived that God will aprove of them, because of their religious attire, this scheme of using dress gives the appearance that unregenerate men are done with sin, but God's x ray vision sees beyond this religious attire to the corruption that lies within. 1 Samuel 16:7 "...the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."

B. Sometimes sinners look to their heritage as a hope for Gods approval but when John the Baptist discerned that the religious leaders of his day would use this excuse for being right with God he warned them against it. To think that we are above others because of our parentage is a common argument among sinners. The Nazis thought they were a superior race, but its not just the Germans who have seen themselves in this lofty way all races struggle with this pride.

Matthew 3:7-9 "But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham."

C. Some feel that because they hold more of this worlds stuff that they have the means to purchase a good standing with God some reason that with a large sum of money they can lesson their suffering in hell and possibly escape God's wrath entirely, but God will not be mocked in this way our sins will find us out and what we have sown we will reap.

Acts 8:18-23 "And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity."

D. Some have reasoned that because of their religious efforts they will be placed under an umbrella of mercy where they will be saved from the dreadful storm of God's wrath, and that He will look upon them respectfully overlooking their sin and welcoming them into heaven, but nothing could be further from the truth.

John 1:13 "Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

2.) If God were a respecter of persons what would he be like?

A. The Almighty would be an exact replica of what we see in sinners, it is within the hearts of carnal men to create a peking order as hens do in a chicken house, but this type of injustice is not in God, but it can be found in the world, and among the cults and it can also be found at times even among blood washed believers.

James 2:9 "But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors."

B.) The one true and living God would be no different then the false gods and dumb idols that are conceived within the hearts of those who live in a state of condemnation.

Psalms 50:21 "...thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes."

3.) If God is no respecter of persons how can anyone find favor with God?

A. God has given us the answer for this in the Bible, he has shown us in his Word that He has repect ONLY for Christ and his worthiness, Christ as God is infinite and unchanging, and in his life he fulfilled the law by always loving God and his fellow man with an immeasurable love, and in his passion he offered to God a payment that wiped out the debt connected to the wages of unrighteousness, this was done in such a thorough way that any sinner can find a full pardon for iniquity based on the great worth of Christ and his satisfying, suffering, and substitutionary death.
