GOD IS . .

2 SAMUEL 22:1-2

A. MY FOUNDATION - “The Lord is my rock…”

ROCK means rock, stong hold or security.

1. He is immutable – He never changes

•“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” James 1:17

•“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

•“For I am the LORD, I change not . . .” Malachi 3:6

2. He is infinite – He has no limits.

•“Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” Psalms 147:5

•“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” Psalms 90:2

3. He is holy

•“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5

•“God’s holiness is positive and active. It’s God’s perfect nature at work accomplishing God’s perfect will.” Warren Wiersbe.

B. MY FORTRESS - “The Lord is my fortress . . .”

FORTRESS means castle, strong hold, or fort.

1. He is my wall of defense

•“Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defense . . .” Job 22:25

•“My defense is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.” Psalms 7:10

•“For Thou hast been a defense for the helpless, A defense for the needy in his distress, A refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat; For the breath of the ruthless Is like a rain storm against a wall.” Isaiah 25:4

•Four times in the Old Testament, God speaks of defending the city.

2. He fights my battles for me

•“And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:47

•“Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 "The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent. ‘ Exodus 14:13-14

C. MY FREEDOM - “The Lord is my deliverer . . .”

DELIVERER means deliverer and escape.

•Paul in Romans7:14 describes each of us as having been sold into bondage to sin.

•“Consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Romans 6:11

•“Our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Romans 6:6-7
