Summary: Appreciating God as My source and seeing other people/things as channels

God My Eternal Source

Lk.12:15ff; Deut.8:18; Jn.10:10

1. We originated from Him – Hebs. 12:22-24; Gen. 1:26ff.

2. He is our life source – Jn. 5:21ff.

3. We cannot plan our future without Him – Jm. 4:14.

He is Omniscient – Ps. 139

He teaches us to number our days – Ps. 90:12.

4. Hence our times are in His hands – Ps. 31:15.

5. Our natural life is meaningless without Him – Mt. 16:24ff.

6. Our gifts/talents are from Him – Rom. 11:29.

 We cannot impress God with what He gave us – 1 Cor. 4:7.

 We can only express Him with it – Col. 1:27.

 Don’t waste His resources => Jesus (fishes & loaves) – Jn. 6:5-14.

7. To succeed as believers we must…

 Yield our tools (jobs/ talents/ gifts) unto Him – Lk. 5:1-11; Ps. 18:34.

It wasn’t just David’s slingshot that killed Goliath; it was the blessing / anointing of God that did it – Deut. 8:18; Ps. 60:12/62:10-12; 1 Cor. 15:10.

 See our jobs/ talents/ professions etc as merely channels; God is our source – Zech. 4:6; Ecc. 9:10-11; Rom. 9:16; 2 Sam. 22:35; Ps. 144:1.

No man, no animate or inanimate object is our source; They are merely channels.

 See our “jobs” as a point of contact for signs; – Is. 48:17.

 The Rod of Moses – Ex. 4:2ff, 17, 20.

 Elijah’s mantle – 1 Kg.19ff.

 Sampson’s hair/ jaw bone – Jug. 13-16.

 David’s slingshot – 1 Sam. 17.

 Yielding our “tools” to God puts Him on our side – Rom. 8:31.

8. With God on our side all things are possible – Lk. 1:37; Mk. 10:27.

Now we can understand why Isaac made it – Gen. 26:1-3,12ff.

Like Isaac, with God on our side, we can reap a hundred fold returns.

We must stay connected to the ultimate source of life in order to make it in life – Ps. 1:1-3.
