God’s Last Word Series: Messages from

Hebrews 1:1–2:4 Hebrews

INTRODUCTION

Illustration: Not long after the fall of the Soviet Union, an elderly Russian woman came to America. One day she went for the first time to an American supermarket. Accustomed to long lines and food shortages, she entered the supermarket, saw fruits, vegetables, meats, and canned goods piled high on their shelves. At this she promptly fainted. She had never seen so much food in one place. The choices were too much for her.

The world offers us so many choices. We live in a pluralistic culture where we are told that “there is no truth except for what is true for me, and what is true for me might not be true for you.”

Illustration: The tower that stands at the center of the University of Texas has these words inscribed on it: “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” To most who pass by, the words imply that, given enough time, effort and research, humans can find truth and set themselves free. Jesus words actually meant that there is a way to know THE truth. “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31–32

CONCLUSION

In a world full of choices, God gave us his Final Word. Concerning Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior C. S. Lewis commented concerning our choices, “You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and Kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God.”

We do have a choice concerning God’s Last Word to humanity.

What is your choice?
