  Study Tools

We have seen already how God created everything (Genesis 1-11). We have seen that everything came from God. In Genesis 12 and up, we have seen how God chose one of the people on earth and made him a beneficiary of all his goodness.

Today, we will be seeing how man, especially those he has chosen will respond to all the goodness he bestowed on them.

Abraham saw the greatness, the goodness and the graciousness of God. Now, it is his turn to show his true self before God.

I. GOD TESTED ABRAHAM’S LOVE, 1-5

“Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love…”

Factors/Realities to consider: It is easy to love things that you can touch, see and feel (tangible things).

II. GOD TESTED ABRAHAM’S FAITH, 6-8

“God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”

Factors to consider: absence of the sacrificial offering, wild surroundings, etc.

III. GOD TESTED ABRAHAM’S COURAGE, 9-14

“Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.”

Factors to consider: Fear of taking man’s life with your own hands, much more your own son?

IV. GOD TESTED ABRAHAM’S OBEDIENCE, 15-19

“…because you have obeyed me.”

Factor/Reality to consider: Practicality

CONCLUSION

Abraham passed the test. You are next. Be ready, firm-up, you will be tested, too.

God will test

Your love,

Your faith,

Your courage, and

Your obedience.

Your true color will be revealed in the test.

When you pass the test, God will swear by His name and power, “I will surely bless you… because you have obeyed me.
